Why is Xixia Mausoleum called "Oriental Pyramid"?

Known as the "Oriental Pyramid", Xixia Mausoleum is located at the eastern foot of Helan Mountain, about 40 kilometers west of Yinchuan City, with a width of 4. 5 kilometers, north-south length 10 kilometers, with a total area of nearly 50 square kilometers. There are 9 mausoleums and about 250 buried tombs in the mausoleum area. This mausoleum is wide and flat, overlooking Yinchuan Plain, and you can see the rolling Yellow River from a distance.

Through scientific restoration, the researchers found that the Xixia Mausoleum should be a magnificent royal cemetery, consisting of a huge tower with rammed earth in the middle and brick eaves and beams outside, supplemented by ancillary buildings such as corner platform, tablet pavilion, holy wall, moon city, memorial hall and mausoleum platform. However, now the ground buildings in the cemetery have disappeared, and those huge tombs standing at the foot of Helan Mountain seem to tell people the glory and misfortune of Xixia Dynasty.

Xixia Dynasty was a local separatist regime with dangxiang as the main body. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the Tangut people who were good at nomadism began to rise. Soon, they fought in the north and occupied parts of Sichuan, Gansu, Qinghai and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In the Song Dynasty, the Tangut people competed with Song and Liao countries. 1038, Tangut leader Yuan Hao ascended the throne and proclaimed himself emperor. Since then, Xixia has begun a glorious history of nearly 200 years.

Since the founding of Yuan Hao, there have been 10 emperors in Xixia. /kloc-At the beginning of the third century, the powerful Mongolian army defeated Xixia, and the kingdom of Xixia sank forever in the turbulent history. In the eyes of Song people, Xixia was a "traitor", so the history of Song Dynasty was not among them. However, in the eyes of Yuan people, Xixia had a "revenge for killing ancestors", so the history of Yuan Dynasty was not included. In the case that neither side recognized it, Xixia Dynasty became a historical mystery.

In fact, influenced by Chinese culture, Xixia has its own square characters and calendar, and has a complete political and religious system. In recent years, Xixia characters have been unearthed frequently, but it is still difficult to fully interpret and decipher Xixia characters, so this carrier of Xixia culture can't tell us more information about this history. When the Xixia tomb was excavated, although there were many unsolved mysteries, it gave people confidence in understanding the history of Xixia.
