Why do Miao people like to build their houses on top of mountains or on mountainside?
The Miao family uses stilted houses as houses and lives in groups on the mountainside, forming a Miao village. The Miao people have experienced several major migrations in history. The Han people continued to drive the Miao people into remote mountains and old forests with harsh environments. Therefore, in order to avoid mosquitoes, poisonous snakes and wild beasts, they built stilted buildings with two floors and raised poultry and livestock downstairs. There are people living upstairs. Diaojiao buildings built on the mountainside have good ventilation and good sunlight conditions, and can easily dry wooden buildings soaked by fog. Diaojiao buildings can last for one or two hundred years without rotting. People living on them have relatively less moisture and good air flow around them. At the same time, building on the mountainside and top of the mountain can avoid natural disasters such as mudslides.
