[Edit this paragraph] Appreciation of works
Turner is recognized as one of the most outstanding geniuses in the history of English painting. The oil painting The Return of the Battleship is one of his masterpieces. The work depicts a sailboat "Temirele" which has made great achievements in the past and is being towed back to the dock by a newly invented steam engine ship, showing the changes brought to Britain by the industrial revolution. In this work, Turner focuses on the color change of the sea light and the strong contrast between the cold and warm colors at sunset, which reflects his special concern for color change and distinctive artistic characteristics.
Turner likes to paint seascapes at sunset. This painting depicts a small steamboat slowly dragging a retired warship into the harbor. The afterglow of the setting sun shines on the sky and covers the sea. The warship's former majestic posture has not diminished, but to see the sun, for all his glory, after all, is dusk, and it will be dark nearby. The atmosphere of the picture is consistent with the fate of the warship. Its ancient and majestic posture exudes a sad and sorrowful atmosphere on the picture. At this time, the sky and the sea are equally quiet, and nature also sang an elegy for this old warship. This is a sad and vulgar poem.
[Edit this paragraph] Introduction of the painter
William Turner (1775- 185 1), a famous British landscape painter, is a representative of English academic painters in the first half of19th century. Together with John constable, he is called "two people who really made English landscape painting get rid of the influence of Dutch, French or Italian painting and embark on their own independent road". His special contribution in the history of art is to put landscape painting on the same footing as historical painting and portrait painting.
Turner was born in London on April 23rd, 1775, and died in the same place on February 9th, 185 1. Turner showed his painting talent when he was 10 years old. At the age of 24, due to his outstanding achievements in art, he was accepted as the youngest member of the Royal Society of Art. He traveled all over Italy, and finally he devoted himself to describing the changes in the light color and air of the sea. He carefully studied the intensity of sea light, the activities of clouds and wind and rain, and cultivated a special technique and innovative color with romantic feelings in color, which greatly promoted the impressionism movement in Britain and France later. Turner himself once said that depicting nature requires accurate observation, and his paintings are the accurate embodiment of his visual experience and the result of his long-term careful observation of nature.
