The 20th Anniversary of Elder Mingshan's Death: Thirteen Methods of Cultivating Mind.

0 1 altruism

I often think of "self-interest", that is, I gain by myself and most people suffer; "Altruism" means that I suffer alone and most people gain. Compared with others, I think egoism is too small, but altruism is great, so I decided on my will: "I would rather lose myself than teach me to lose myself." It also means the same as "Do not seek happiness for yourself, let all beings suffer from it" and "Staff Sergeant is diligent in seeking happiness and suffers from himself".

Based on this will, I will cooperate with others, willing to suffer more and share less pleasure; In dealing with people and things, I am willing to suffer more and gain less. Especially at the moment of conflict of interest, remember to think of others first: I would rather sacrifice myself for others than harm others; At the very least, we should be altruistic and not harm ourselves, or selfish and not harm him. Therefore, I stand in the world, say a word, do one thing, and hold the idea that everything is based on altruism.

sympathize with

In the winter of 32 years of the Republic of China, when I was hanged by a radio operator in Hengyang for negotiating temple property, my body felt very painful and my life was greatly threatened. I had to meditate on "There is no great sorrow in the south, Guanyin Bodhisattva", hoping that the Bodhisattva would inform Master Taixu to save me as soon as possible: coming a minute earlier would make me feel a little bitter, and coming half a minute later, I was afraid that I would die; At that time, the extremely urgent emotion in my heart was unknown to those who had not experienced it.

Just because I learned that painful lesson, I saw or heard that others and all beings were suffering, just like myself, trying to rescue them quickly: when I saw others fall, I immediately picked them up; If others need it urgently, solve it immediately; Others were injured or poisoned, and many doctors were invited to treat them; Don't avoid resentment to save others from drowning or fire; Especially when I see others hanging up or fish, turtles, chickens and ducks hanging upside down, I feel very anxious and always try my best to save them. These are all driven by my compassion.

03 Hengshun Zhongsheng

I want to become a monk, that is, to follow the wishes of the dean and teachers and study hard; To be a teacher is to listen to the dean's instructions and give lectures carefully; Being a dean means following the teacher's instructions and cultivating as much as possible; The same is true of holding public office, deacon, abbot, etc. Without subjective prejudice, follow objective interests, treat people like this, and treat all sentient beings like this. I would like to be like the rain and dew in spring, the cool breeze in summer, the bright moon in autumn, the sun in winter, the ferry in the river and the sea, the vehicles in the mainland, and the plane in the air … to be a person who needs the times and is welcomed by all beings.

04 public and selfless

In order to protect Buddhism, resolve disputes between temples and schools, protect the rights and interests of Buddhist monks, and set up Buddhist education and charity, I have handled hundreds of cases and dozens of lawsuits in Buddhist societies all over the country, and invited several notices to protect Buddhism. I don't know how many roads I walked, how many words I said and how much money I spent. I often go hungry outside after dinner, even if I am sick, I have no intention of doing it again. Enthusiastic about public welfare, selfless, only do their duty, regardless of rights, only care about the world's fat, regardless of their own thinness, always because they want to learn from their ancestors, forget their bodies, learn from Bodhisattva to serve all sentient beings, and learn from Buddha's compassion.

No harm

I firmly believe that everything has a cause and effect, and good is rewarded with good, evil with evil, and sometimes it is not reported, but the time has not come, so I don't want to meet a wicked person who hates me, envies me, slanders me or even hurts me. I think, "You shouldn't commit a crime yourself." There is natural cause and effect, why should I hurt him? I only pity him for his deep karma and shallow good roots. I am ashamed that I have no sense of morality and can't save him! If the situation hurts him, it will eventually hurt him, not hurt him, or make him turn over a new leaf. Seeing others trying to kill others, I often use this intention to persuade them.

06 extensive maintenance and support

I am not greedy for clothes, food or hobbies. The clothes I got privately and the money my teachers and friends gave me were not used for Buddhist public welfare, that is, for Buddhists. Often, when donations from all parties are not enough to run public welfare, private funds are used to supplement, build temples or carve Buddha statues and reprint classics. They are also always willing to help each other: they buy Ren Dan, tiger balm and ten drops of water on weekdays, treat patients at any time, and provide extra clothes, shoes and socks to the poor at any time. Sometimes I lend money for the public, sometimes I help, sometimes I give alms to beggars, and sometimes I give alms to refugees. In particular, people are in urgent need and dare not say "whatever they want", but they always want to satisfy their wishes; When people are in danger, they dare not say "ask for help", but they always try their best to help.

Humiliate without anger

Although I am young, I still hold my breath with confidence: when I was in Hengyang, I once asked a teacher in the same room because I lost a book. A teacher felt that I despised his personality and flew into a rage, pointing and swearing. I smiled and explained to him. Another time, Teacher A secretly falsely accused Teacher B of being a traitor with my name, and sneaked into my room to steal my private seal. When Mr. B was questioned at the police station, he saw my name and seal on the official document and believed it. A few days after he was released, he scolded me and even fought hard with me. I'm not touched. Some people scold me, slander me, bully me, insult me and even hit me because of misunderstanding and suspicion. I will endure, endure and not hate.

There are many such experiences. I can not only bear the annoyance of others, but also hate annoying others myself. At first, when the anger came up, I barely suppressed it. Over time, if you want to lose your temper, you feel that the fire can't go up. I am familiar with Maitreya: "Some people call me an old chap, but an old chap like me only says yes. Someone hit an old guy like me. An old guy like me fell asleep and spat in his face. Let him do it himself, and I'll save some energy. He has no worries. " This song seems to describe me.

Stop killing and release

I have read Misha's law: "You can't die from buddhas and saints to flies and squirming things." I also read an ancient poem: "The curtain belongs to the swallow, and the idiot flies cut it out. Love mice, often leave meals, pity moths, and don't order. " "For thousands of years, the grievances in a bowl of soup are as deep as the sea. If you want to know the sword robbery in the world, you can hear the butcher's door at midnight. "

I keep these words in mind, so I am most afraid of hurting ants and insects when walking, and killing mosquitoes, flies and ticks; I don't want people to keep cats for fear that they will kill mice, and I don't want people to eat meat for fear that they will create more killing businesses. I once stipulated that on April 8 every year, I would try to buy fish and set them free. It is convenient to rescue animals that have lost their freedom at any time and anywhere. I often advise people to be vegetarian, stop killing and let them be free, so that they can feel peace and save the world.

09 nursing patients

I suffered from two most dangerous illnesses in Qishan, and my life was on the verge of despair. Thanks to Shao Kang's considerate care, I came back to life, so my illness was relieved. Medicine only accounts for three tenths, self-care only accounts for two tenths, and the role of caregivers actually accounts for five tenths. So when I meet people who are sick, I am willing to take care of them. When nursing, check his condition and take his soup and medicine diet on time; Observe their intentions and act according to their intentions; Comfort him from time to time, obey him everywhere, let him rest at ease, don't worry; In times of crisis, it is even more important to mention his mindfulness and help him read Buddha to death.

10 Don't say nasty things.

Hypocritical flattery, cajoling rhetoric, treacherous sowing dissension and rude swearing will all cause people's troubles. I have always been reluctant to say that. I just want to say true and sincere words, straightforward words, words of mediation and reconciliation, and happy words of praise, which will make people feel happy after listening! Don't say annoying things unless you have to.

He Yue's tolerance is too enthusiastic.

I know people hate frowning, but smiles and smiles are welcome. Even if I have any troubles and sorrows, I always hide them in my heart and don't want to look ugly on the surface. Let him "know himself in cold and warm, and the world is desolate", but I still smile and treat others kindly; And how can you be lonely and arrogant in the situation of "meeting thousands of miles away, but never meeting"? I understand that "people in this life see people they like, but people in the last life are happy, so I always have a little smile, a little modesty, respect, sincerity and sincerity towards others."

12 Promoting Buddhism

Since I studied Buddhism, I have studied diligently for more than ten years, and I have learned the true meaning of life in the universe from Buddhism, which has given me endless pleasure and great spiritual comfort. Knowing the merits of Buddhism is boundless: you can get rid of troubles, increase blessings and good roots, get happiness from suffering, and live like a Buddha ... People will decide to get these merits and benefits as long as they believe and practice. Therefore, I am not superficial. I like to dedicate my experience of Buddhism to the crowd in simple and popular words at any time and place, or explain it to others with my tongue. Dare not keep a secret, I always hope everyone can enjoy it together! Tongcheng zhengjue!

13 desire to repay kindness

I often think of the care of the three treasures, the upbringing of parents, the guidance of teachers and friends, the guarantee of the country, the origin of food and clothing, the shelter of houses, the operation of ships and cars, ready-made things, the overlap of heaven and earth, the arrival of the sun and the moon, the beauty of nature, and the mutual help of society ... everywhere I go, I feel warm and feel their endless goodwill; I also thought of "all men are my fathers and all women are my mothers" and "all beings are like fathers and mothers, like brothers, sisters, sons and nephews". They are all my relatives and benefactors; Although I practice compassion with all kinds of convenience, I am still afraid that I can't do anything, in case I can't repay it; Therefore, when I worship Buddha every day, I pray devoutly and silently: "May all beings in the legal profession get rid of suffering, enjoy happiness, become monks together and live in the pure land together!"
