How to read Hetu and Luoshu

Function: 16, water is in the north, 27 is in the same way, fire is in the south, 38 is a friend, wood is in the east, 49 is a friend, gold is in the west. Fifty years on the same journey, living in the middle.

The river diagram uses ten black and white dots to represent yin and yang, the five elements, and the four images. The diagram is a square. As follows:

North: One white dot inside and six black dots outside, indicating the Xuanwu astrology and the five elements of water.

East: Three white dots inside and eight black dots outside, indicating the astrology of the green dragon and the five elements of wood.

South: Two black dots inside and seven white dots outside, indicating the Suzaku astrology and the five elements of fire.

Western: Four black dots inside and nine white dots outside, indicating the white tiger astrology and the five elements of gold.

Center: five white dots inside and ten black dots outside, representing the singularity of space and time, and the five elements are earth.

(Among them, the white dots in odd numbers are yang, and the black dots in even numbers are yin. Among the four images, each image controls seven constellations, with a total of 28 constellations.) The above is the "River Map" 》. Among them, the four images, according to the orientation of the ancients sitting north and facing south, are: Suzaku in the front, Xuanwu in the back, Qinglong on the left, and white tiger on the right. This is the source of Feng Shui pictograms.

Luo Shu:

If you explain in detail the arrangement of the numbers in the Nine Palaces diagram, you may be able to see some truth. First of all, the sum of the numbers in the Nine Palaces Chart is equal to fifteen. I am afraid everyone knows this. Even the sum of the horizontal, vertical and diagonal numbers equals fifteen.

4+9+2=15; 3+5+7=15; 8+1+6=15; 4+3+8=15; 9+5+1=15; 2+7 +6=15; 4+5+6=15; 2+5+8=15

Number mystery

a+b+c=d+e+f; a^ 2+b^2+c^2=d^2+e^2+f^2

We take 438 in the left column and 276 in the right column as examples to illustrate. When we add the numbers into two-digit numbers, the sum of the numbers in the left and right columns is still equal. That is 43+38+84=27+76+62. The gradient from bottom to top still holds. That is 83+34+48=67+72+26.

It is still the same when it is converted into three digits, that is, 438+384+843=276+762+627.

It is still true to count from bottom to top, that is, 834+348+483=672+726+267.

Continue to change in this way to four digits, five digits, six digits, one hundred digits, one thousand digits and still hold true. The magic is not here yet. What is even more amazing is that whether it is one digit, two digits or three digits, the sum of the squares can still be equal to the left and right. For example, a two-digit number is 43^2+38^2+84^2=27^2+76^2+62^2.

The sum of the squares of three-digit and four-digit numbers can still be established. In other words, it can be established whether it is a hundred or a thousand places.

Extended information:

The meaning of "Luoshu" is actually "venation diagram". In the vast world, everything is divided into categories according to the Bagua and Five Elements; how to organize it into an orderly operating whole is the function of Luo Shu. According to legend, during the time of the Fuxi clan in ancient times, a dragon and horse emerged from the Yellow River in Mengjin County, northeast of Luoyang, carrying a "river map" on its back and dedicated it to Fuxi.

Fuxi developed Bagua according to this, which later became the source of "Zhouyi". It is also said that during the reign of Emperor Yu, a magical turtle emerged from the Luo River in Luoning County, west Luoyang, carrying "Luo Shu" on its back and dedicated it to Emperor Yu. Dayu succeeded in controlling the floods based on this, and then divided the world into Kyushu. Based on this, a nine-chapter law was formulated to govern society, which was handed down and included in the Book of Documents, named "Hong Fan". "Yi Xici" says: "The river produces pictures, Luo produces books, and the sages follow them." This refers to these two things.

In December 2014, Luoyang City’s Hetu Luoshu Legend was officially selected into the national intangible cultural heritage list.

"Hetu" and "Luoshu" are the sources of Chinese culture. "Book of Changes" says: "The river produces pictures, Luo produces books, and the sage follows them." This sage is Fuxi, the ancestor of human culture. It is said that during the reign of Fu Xi, a dragon and horse appeared from the Yellow River, carrying the "He Tu" on their backs; a divine turtle appeared from Luoshui, carrying the "Luo Shu" on its back.

Fuxi drew the Eight Diagrams based on this "picture" and "book". Later, King Wen of Zhou studied the Eight Diagrams of King Wen and the Sixty-Four Hexagrams based on Fuxi's Eight Diagrams, and wrote the hexagrams respectively.
