Relationship between location of industrial zone and dominant wind direction
In urban planning and layout, in order to reduce the harm of harmful gases emitted by industry to residential areas, general industrial areas should be located in the downwind direction of residential areas according to the prevailing local wind direction. Refer to the icon.
(1) If there is only one prevailing wind direction throughout the year, and the opposite direction is the minimum wind frequency (Figure A), or the conversion angle between the minimum wind direction and the prevailing wind direction is greater than 90 degrees (Figure B), the industrial land should be located in the wind direction above the minimum wind frequency, and the residential area should be located in the downwind direction.
(2) When there are two prevailing winds all year round, polluting industries should avoid the upwind direction of the two prevailing winds, and industrial and residential areas can generally be arranged on both sides of the prevailing winds. (Figures C, D, E, F, G, H)
