Meng Jiangnv and the Legend of Jieshi in the East China Sea

Once upon a time, in the east of the old dragon head of Shanhaiguan Great Wall, on the coast of Bohai Sea, there was a small fishing village, where it was exactly like a raised turtle's back.

It borders Changshou Mountain in the north and Bohai Bay in the south. It is a famous place of geomantic omen in history.

Legend has it that in ancient times, due to the high terrain and sweet well water, fishermen often looked at the mountains and seas from here when fishing and hunting.

Because there are many people in this fishing village who take Meng as their surname, people gradually get used to calling it Meng's family.

One day, a young man named Fan Qiliang came to Meng's home to fish by boat from far away. Suddenly, the sea was stormy, and Fan Qiliang jumped into the sea to save the girl who was swept away by the waves.

However, due to the wind and waves, Fan Qiliang dived into the seabed several times and failed to find the girl. Just as he was tired and desperate to return to the fishing boat, he suddenly saw a golden light on the sea. Fan Qiliang finally saw the girl. He jumped up, hugged the girl from behind and swam to the shore.

Soon, the heroic deeds of the young man Fan Qiliang spread in the fishing village. The villagers praised the young man for his bravery and kindness.

From then on, Fan Qiliang also gave up his wandering career and stayed in Meng Jia fishing village.

Later, Fan Qiliang learned that the girl's name was Meng Jiangnv.

After being rescued from the sea by Fan Qiliang, Meng Jiangnv began to admire this chivalrous and enthusiastic young man. With the acquiescence of her family, she helped Fan Qiliang build a shed and weave fishing nets. Over time, the two fell in love and swore to each other. It is said that this is the oldest version of China's idiom: "Make vows".

Soon, under the witness of Meng villagers, the two married in the bridal chamber.

What they didn't know, however, was that Qin Shihuang visited the East and decided to build the Great Wall at Shanhaiguan. To this end, he also built a palace not far east of Meng Jia.

On the second day of Meng Jiangnv and Fan Qiliang's wedding, the peak-like pool suddenly broke into the fishing village and forcibly took away her husband who was repairing the Great Wall.

Fan Qiliang was not spared. Heartbroken Meng Jiangnv rushed out of the bridal chamber, grabbed her husband's skirt tightly, burst into tears and shouted loudly.

After her husband was taken away, there was no news of her year after year.

Meng Jiangnv cried and dried her tears, but she still didn't see her husband come back. Before the winter came, Meng Jiangnv bid farewell to her parents, put on warm clothes and resolutely embarked on the road of finding a husband.

One day, Meng Jiangnv came to the unfinished Shanhaiguan, and the veteran guarding the customs stopped her. Meng Jiangnv explained to the veteran that she came to ask her husband to send warm clothes, but the veteran refused.

Helpless, Meng Jiangnv sang a ditty "December" for the veterans, telling the tragic scene that people in this area were hungry and cold, their families were ruined and their wives and children were separated since the Great Wall was built here. Finally, the veteran was sung and cried by Meng Jiangnv's ditty. Silently let Meng Jiangnv pass through the customs.

When Meng Jiangnv finally came to the foot of the Great Wall, which was half repaired, and inquired about the whereabouts of Fan Qiliang from the civilian worker who built the Great Wall, a small leader who looked after the civilian worker told Meng Jiangnv that her husband had died of illness and was buried in the wall a year ago.

Hearing the bad news, Meng Jiangnv flew into a rage and opened her eyes wide. She couldn't believe it for a long time. Suddenly, she burst into tears. She banged on the wall and shouted her husband's name. In this way, Meng Jiangnv cried under the wall for three days and nights until a gust of wind blew and the Great Wall collapsed. Meng Jiangnv also fainted in tears.

The news reached the palace of Qin Shihuang. When Qin Shihuang learned that Meng Jiangnv cried on the Great Wall, he was furious and went to the scene. When he discovered Meng Jiangnv's excellent appearance, he had the idea of recruiting Meng Jiangnv into the palace.

Who knows, Meng Jiangnv, who was brought into the palace, faced Qin Shihuang's ugly intentions and vowed to resist. After angrily condemning Qin Shihuang's atrocities, Meng Jiangnv remained loyal and unyielding in order to resist the feudal autocracy.

Later, after hearing the news, the villagers of the Meng family searched for the body in the coastal bay. Finally, it was found that Meng Jiangnu and her relics had turned into a cluster of sea stones for future generations to mourn.

Since then, a legendary story has been left: Meng Jiangnu cried down the Great Wall.

Later, according to the archaeological excavation on the shore near Jieshi, it was proved that Qin Shihuang did set up a "palace" here when he inspected the Great Wall of Shanhaiguan.

At the end of the Han Dynasty, Cao Cao made a northern expedition to Wu Huan, where he once camped, and left a poem in his masterpiece Looking at the Sea: Jieshi looks at the sea in the east. Where there is water, mountains and islands are towering.

Chairman Mao also mentioned in his poems: "In the past more than a thousand years, Wei Wu wielded a whip, leaving the world behind.".

People today have turned this place into an ocean park. There was an endless stream of people who came to mourn Jessi.
