Geographical location of Chaerhan Salt Lake
"Chaerhan" is Mongolian, which means "salt ze". Salt Lake is located in Gobi Desert, with hot and dry climate, long sunshine time and much higher water evaporation than precipitation. Due to long-term exposure to wind and sun, the lake has formed a high concentration of brine, which gradually crystallized into salt particles, and the lake panel has formed a thick salt layer, which is extremely hard. Incredibly, there is a 32-kilometer-long road and railway running through the salt lake, which is a "salt bridge" floating on the brine. Highway and railway is a section of Golmud-Dunhuang Highway and Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
Located between Kunlun Mountain and Qilian Mountain, the Qaidam Basin is famous at home and abroad as the "cornucopia" of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The heart of the Qaidam Basin is the famous Qarhan. Chaerhan Salt Lake is one of the largest natural salt lakes in the world. Its amazing rich salt resources and 32km-long unique landscape "Zhang Wan Salt Bridge" have made its name resound for more than half a century.
