How to grow yam

The determination of (1) sowing date is mainly based on two factors, one is the germination period of tuber, and the other is the external temperature condition. After harvest, tubers quickly go into dormancy. When the temperature reaches 13 ~ 14℃ in spring, tubers germinate and new plants begin to grow, which is a suitable sowing time. Seeding too early will not germinate, or the germination time is too long; Sowing too late, the bud is too big, sowing is difficult, planting is late and harvesting is late, which affects tuber hypertrophy and reduces quality.

The situation varies from place to place. In some areas, the seeds can be sown at the average temperature of 12℃, and in areas with conditions, the seeds can be sown at 1 1℃ in advance. Central China usually sows in mid-April.

(2) Sowing method

Sowing depth

Round yam grows in shallow soil, so it is not advisable to sow it too deeply. The depth of the hole is 7 ~ 8 cm. The soil in the cave must be subdivided. When sowing, the section of the diced potato is upward, so that the cuticle of the diced potato contacts the soil as much as possible. This will not only help to take root and sprout, but also avoid drought. However, according to scientific experiments, the downward contact of cortex with soil is beneficial to the temperature conditions needed for growth and germination, and will not affect the upward germination. Therefore, it is still advocated that the incision is upward and the cortex is downward.

After the potato pieces are arranged, gently cover them with 1 cm soil, and then sprinkle the decomposed manure on them. When the soil cover is thick, the germination is irregular and it is easy to cause rot. Covering soil 1 cm, plus compost pit soil, 2 ~ 3 cm thick, is the ideal sowing depth.

planting density

Round yam can be divided into bracket cultivation and crawling cultivation, and the planting distance is different. Judging from the current planting density, it is generally appropriate to plant 3000 ~ 4000 plants per 667 m2. Plant two rows of seedbeds 1.5m, and plant seedbeds 1 row 1m with a spacing of 30cm. At the same time, we should master the following principles: (1) Scaffolding cultivation should be dense, climbing cultivation should be sparse; Fertile soil should be dense and barren land should be sparse; It is advisable to keep seeds for cultivation.
