Chaohu Scenery 9: Woniu Mountain
There is a mountain in the middle of the city in Chaohu City. It is called Woniu Mountain because it looks like a lying buffalo.
Although the mountain is not big, it is famous far and wide. Many tourists from ancient and modern times climb the mountain to enjoy the scenery.
Sun Zhifang, the magistrate of Chaoxian County in the Qing Dynasty, left a poem saying "Nanqiao once said about Little Gusu", comparing Woniu Mountain to Gusu Mountain in Suzhou.
In the past, there was such a folk song circulating in Chao County:
According to the "Chao County Chronicle" recorded in the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, Woniu Mountain was once the place where the sages Chao Fu and Xu You lived in seclusion. Chao City has the historic sites of Washing Er Pond and Qian Niu Lane. Due to the unique momentum of Gushan, Qishan and Fenghuang Mountain outside the city, a geomantic treasure was gathered together, so the Jiugong and Eighteen Hours were created.
In 1937, General Feng Yuxiang returned to his hometown and proposed the construction of Niushan Park. At that time, several roads around the mountain had been opened and some flowers, plants and trees were planted. Later, due to the Japanese invasion of China and the fall of Chaocheng, work was stopped. .
In 1956, General Li Keyi returned to his hometown and lived in the county party committee compound at the foot of the hillside for several days. During this period, Li Kenong climbed to the top of Woniu Mountain several times and took a leisurely stroll. Before leaving the nest, he solemnly said to the then Secretary of the Chaoxian County Party Committee: "Woniu Mountain is a good place, and the mountain is within the city. If a big city in other places has such a mountain, it would be a treasure! It needs to be built well, and there will be more Plant some trees so that the people, especially those in primary and secondary schools, can have a good place to go during the holidays."
The county party committee certainly attached great importance to Li Kenong's suggestion, and Woniu Mountain Park was built shortly thereafter.
