Feng Shui, the hometown of Confucius, Shandong

Qufu, Shandong Province, is the hometown of Confucius, who is famous all over the world. Known as the "Holy City of the East" and "Oriental Jerusalem". Located at 1.5 km north of Qufu City, Kong Lin, there is the largest, oldest and most well-preserved family cemetery in the world.

According to historical records, Konglin, formerly known as Zhi, is the cemetery of Confucius and his descendants. Since its establishment, it has been passed down for more than 2,400 years, and there are as many direct descendants of Confucius as100000. The area of Kong Lin has been continuously expanded by successive emperors, and now it covers more than 3,000 mu, which is bigger than Qufu City.

Why can Kong Lin last for more than 2400 years? Many people think it's because Kong Lin's feng shui is good. There are many local legends about Kong Lin's geomantic omen: According to legend, in ancient times, no matter how severe the drought was in Shandong, only Kong Lin's vegetation did not wither and the soil was moist. In addition, there have never been rats, snakes, insects and other poisons in Kong Lin.

Kong Lin, a treasure trove of geomantic omen, was personally selected by Confucius before his death. According to the Analects of Confucius and Historical Records Confucius Family, at the age of 73, Confucius summoned Zi Gong and told him that he was dying and wanted to choose a cemetery. Accompanied by Zi Gong, Confucius traveled all over the mountains and rivers near Qufu, and finally chose a piece of land along the Sishui River in the north of Qufu as his burial place.

After the death of Confucius, his disciples kept filial piety for him for three years according to the ritual system, and only Zi Gong kept the mausoleum alone for six years. According to historical records, while guarding the tomb of Confucius, Zigong planted a regular script tree next to the tomb, which was cherished by the south, to express his thoughts on Confucius. In order to carry forward the spirit of respecting teachers and valuing Taoism, later generations built a house in the place where he guarded the mausoleum, and named it "Zigong Lu Tomb". However, by the Ming Dynasty, all the regular script trees in Zigong had died, and now all the trees were replanted during the reign of Kangxi.

Confucius once told his disciples that the geomantic omen in the family cemetery will directly affect the rise and fall of future generations. However, after the death of Confucius, the feng shui of the mausoleum built for him by later generations was not perfect, and there was a very critical defect. It was not revised until 270 years after his death, and all this began with Qin Shihuang burning books and burying Confucianism. ...

After Qin Shihuang unified the whole country, he promoted legalism in the Qin Dynasty, suppressed Confucianism, and burned books to bury Confucianism. As the founder of Confucianism, Confucius naturally bears the brunt. At that time, Qin Shihuang not only sent troops to raid Confucius' house, but also asked soldiers to dig Confucius' temple and destroy the geomantic omen of Confucius' ancestral grave.

At that time, soldiers dug an artificial river between the mausoleum and Confucius' former residence in Queli, trying to block the feng shui of Confucius' ancestral grave. However, after the artificial river was dug, the Qin Dynasty perished in a few years, and after the establishment of the Han Dynasty, Confucianism was reused by the imperial court, and the status of Confucius and Confucius' family rose.

From then on, the descendants of Confucius thought that this river was the holy water predicted by Confucius that year, and it was the river that Kong Lin lacked in his early years. Qin Shihuang was willing to serve Confucius and help complete the last project of Kong Lin Feng Shui, so Kong Lin was passed down for 2400 years.
