Why is Sun Yuanliang called Flying General?
He was nicknamed "Flying General" because he was good at escaping.
As early as 1926 during the National Revolutionary Army’s Northern Expedition, Sun Yuanliang was a shameful deserter on the battlefield. At that time, the first division of the direct first army and Cheng Qian's third army attacked Sun Chuanfang in Jiangxi. The First Army was greedy for power and rushed forward rashly to attack Nanchang. After luckily succeeding, he did not think about consolidating the victory, but instead had fun. As a result, when Sun Chuanfang's troops counterattacked overnight, Wang Boling, commander of the First Division, was in Sister Yao's bed, and party representative Miao Bin also fled. As a result, the First Division was completely defeated and Nanchang was lost again. Wang Boling and Miao Bin fled to escape the disaster.
On December 10, 1937, the Battle of Nanjing began. The 88th Division quickly engaged in the defense of Nanjing without rest, and was responsible for guarding the commanding heights of Yuhuatai and the south of Nanjing. Despite the bloody battle, due to overall disadvantages in terms of troops, weapons, and supplies, the outer positions were lost in just two or three days, and the main directions of the compound positions were also broken through by the Japanese army.
