What is the real situation experienced by the veterans of the Vietnam self-defense counterattack?
At 5: 00 pm on March 1 Day, we arrived in Gaoping City to take over from the 484th Regiment of162nd Division and take on the task of defending Gaoping. At this time, the streets and alleys of Gaoping City are full of our military personnel. In the words of an autobot in Nanyang, "the city is full of China soldiers"-the red star shines on Gaoping.
Gaoping is the capital of Gaoping province in Vietnam and an important town in northern Vietnam. Surrounded by water on three sides, Pingjiang River flows through Gaoping City, and Xianhe River in the south of the city enters Pingjiang River in the west of the city. Ping Jianghe is winding, with rugged rocks on both sides, dense caves, shady trees along the river, shady bamboo forests and complex terrain. From the house in the city to the river, there are large vegetable fields, and spinach and broccoli are like radishes. There used to be 346 divisions of the elite Vietnamese army in Gaoping area, as well as the people's army, local army, police station and other armed forces. When our army occupied Gaoping, the main force of the Vietnamese army had disappeared without a trace.
The task and specific deployment of our 480 regiment are: defending Gaoping city, controlling all the key points of Gaoping and ensuring the safety of the three bridges connecting our army's transportation lines. 1 battalion occupied the commanding heights on the south bank of the current river, to guard against the enemy of Taiyuan and prevent the enemy from posing a threat to Gaoping from the southwest; Battalion 2 is the group reserve, deployed at the commanding heights on the north bank of Pingjiang to prevent the enemy from threatening Gaoping from the north. The 3rd Battalion guards three bridges, and the 7th Company, 8th Company and 9th Company of our army respectively guard the 1st Bridge, 2nd Bridge and 3rd Bridge to ensure that the bridge is foolproof. The regiment command post fighting with the 2nd Battalion is located next to the warehouse of the Provincial Grain Bureau near the 385 highland on the north bank of Pingjiang River, not far from the railway bridge. That was the tunnel built by the French. It is said that it can resist earthquakes of magnitude 6 or above, and its firmness can be imagined. Regimental units are deployed on both sides of the regimental command post.
Our ninth company is guarding an iron bridge, which is about10m wide,150m long and15m away from the river. It is said that it was built by the French. This end of the bridge is Gaoping City, with gentle terrain and dense buildings. On the other side of the bridge is a wooded mountain peak, and a church built by the French stands on the mountainside. Dai Zongwu, the company commander, ordered three rows of two rocket squads to be stationed in the south of the bridge; Even the first and second rows of artillery squads and cooking squads were stationed in the north of the bridge, and the whole company built fortifications and cat's ear holes along the banks of Pingjiang River.
After the deployment, Zhang Shicai, the fourth platoon leader, commanded the artillery squad and set up two 60 mortars on the shore for test firing-two lovely "monkeys" sitting on foreign land. With a bang, the shell flew out with a whistle, drawing a beautiful arc in the air, and the warhead was as clear as a bird flying high in the sky. Just listen to the sound of "Mao", and on the other side of the hillside, there is a white smoke-the shell hits the target accurately. It seems that the explosive power of this small gun is similar to that of a Grenade. This is my first time to watch 60 shots at close range, and it feels very novel. I really want to try two of them.
Only by effectively protecting ourselves can we better destroy the enemy. As a company document, I dug a bunker on the bank of Pingjiang with the military doctor and trumpeter. The soil here is very soft and was dug in a short time. I found some cement slabs to cover it and covered it with a thick layer of soil. I think I did a good job. When I looked at the bunkers dug by other classes, I was immediately blindsided: Zhang Shicai, the fourth platoon leader, and other old comrades dug bunkers under the roots of bamboo. It really took a lot of effort, and the shells would only fry bamboo but not the bunker; And our bunker, if the shells fall on it, will definitely be finished. If you are not killed by shells, you will also be killed by cement slabs. This can't save trouble. It is getting late. It's too late to dig another bunker. Deal with it for one night first, and then talk about it tomorrow.
There was no war overnight, only sporadic gunfire in the distance, and the idea of rebuilding the bunker was thrown to the outside world.
On March 2, it was just dawn. When I went to the river to wash my face, I saw several soldiers standing in the river, arm in arm, washing clothes. Several soldiers stood by the river to wash rice and vegetables, and soldiers in twos and threes chatted and watched the scenery. The clear river flows slowly, the morning mist fills the air on the river, and the mountains on the other side of the river are hazy. Man and nature constitute a wonderful beauty. Somehow, I remembered the scene on the famous painting "Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival"-I have seen many imitation exhibitions of "Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival".
