The Historical Origin of Zongyangmen in Anqing
Building "door"
In the early 1920s, at the initiative of celebrities such as Shu (the father-in-law of the head Hu), a new door opened in the northeast of the old city wall, leading to the Linghu scenic spot in the north of the city. At the beginning, the government designated this gate as "Linghu Gate" and later renamed it "Jianshe Gate". Residents around are commonly known as Xiaodongmen because the gate faces east and is smaller than Zongyangmen (East Gate). The street from Xilin Street to Xiaodongmen East is Jianshemen Street.
Now Jianshemen Street is east to Baoshan Street, and then it is the wall of the old water conservancy bureau. During the Cultural Revolution, Jianshemen Street was once named Hongwei Street East Third Lane, and 1978 was restored to its original name. Jianshemen Street is only a hundred meters long, and the court in Yingjiang District in the north of the street used to be Dongmen Datang. At that time, the water in the east gate of Datang was very clear, and the sound of hammering could be heard every morning and evening. Dongmen Datang is located in the north of Shijiatang, with Tiefo Temple in the west and Songgong Temple in the northeast. In 1930s, there was a small foreign building named "Li Building" on the east side of the East Gate of Datang, which was the residence of Jiao Shan (Shixian), director of Anhui Army Land Survey Bureau. Jiao Shan joined the * * Army and the League in his early years, and won the second-class Star Treasure Medal issued by the government during the Northern Expedition. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the writer Zhang Henshui returned to Anqing and lived in this small building for a short time.
