What is the symptom that the electronic thermostat of BMW 320 is broken?

There are two symptoms when the heater is broken. One is that the open position is broken and the water temperature rises slowly, resulting in the engine not working normally. Failure to maintain in time will lead to engine damage. In winter, the water temperature rises slowly and there is no warm air. Another is that the thermostat is broken in the closed state, which will directly lead to the temperature increase and seriously damage the engine.

The BMW thermostat is broken. There are two symptoms. One is that the open position is broken and the water temperature rises slowly, resulting in the engine not working normally. Failure to maintain in time will lead to engine damage. In winter, the water temperature rises slowly and there is no warm air. Another is that the thermostat is broken in the closed state, which will directly lead to excessive temperature and serious damage to the engine.

Method of judging thermostat failure: Open radiator filler cap immediately after the cold car starts. If the cooling water in the radiator is calm, it means that the thermostat works normally; Otherwise, the thermostat is not working properly. This is because when the water temperature is lower than 70℃, the thermostatic expansion cylinder is in contraction state and the main valve is closed. When the water temperature is higher than 80℃, the expansion cylinder expands, the main valve gradually opens, and the circulating water in the radiator begins to flow.

When the water temperature meter indicates that it is lower than 70℃, if there is water flowing through the radiator inlet pipe and the water temperature is warmer, the main valve of the thermostat on the meter will not be closed tightly, so that the cooling water will circulate prematurely.

If the thermostat is not broken, it depends on whether there is water flowing out of the engine outlet pipe after the water temperature rises for a period of time. You can feel the water flowing through the pipe. If you can't feel it, it is that the water circulation of the water pump or engine is blocked, and this maintenance is more troublesome.

How to judge whether the thermostat is damaged When the engine starts to run cold, if there is still cooling water flowing out of the water tank inlet pipe, it means that the main valve of the thermostat cannot be closed. When the engine cooling water temperature exceeds 70℃, there is no cooling water flowing out of the water tank inlet pipe, indicating that the main valve of the thermostat cannot be opened normally and needs maintenance.
