Baique Temple is located in Lizhuang Township, Baofeng County, Pingdingshan City, Henan Province. It was first built during the reign of Yao Chang and Bai Que in the Later Qin Dynasty. According to legend, white sparrows swarmed on the ancient locust trees during the Baique period. Because the ancients regarded white sparrows as a symbol of auspiciousness, the gathering of white sparrows was auspicious. Therefore, the temple was built, so it was called Baique Temple.
Baique Temple has a long history and rich culture, with a history of more than 1,600 years. The historical Baique Temple has basically disappeared due to various reasons. The current Baique Temple was built under the supervision of the government through contributions from pilgrims from all over the country, government allocations, and land from Mazhuang Village. It is more than 100 meters long from north to south and east to west. A rectangular temple with a width of more than 80 meters.
Our ancient culture is always troubled by disasters. The destruction and reconstruction interpret the memory of history. It is gratifying for Baique Temple, because it is finally re-presented in front of us in a physical form. It is not a protection and inheritance of ancient culture.
According to folk rumors, Miao Shan, the third daughter of the King of Chuzhuang, liked to practice Buddhism since she was a child. Because Baique Temple is a treasured place for Feng Shui, there are thousand-year-old trees, and the folk customs are simple, she chose to become a monk in Baique Temple. The king actively tried to persuade her to stay, but it still didn't help. King Zhuang was furious and sent people to burn down Baique Temple, causing many innocent nuns to be burned to death. He created such evil karma that he became blind three years later.
Miao Shan, who practiced in Xiangshan Temple, was determined to offer his hands and eyes to save his father in repayment, but asked King Zhuang to learn Buddhism and do good, and King Zhuang agreed. So Miaoshan gouged out his own eyes and had his hands chopped off. King Chuzhuang's condition was fine. Because Miaoshan's good deeds moved God, he became an immortal. It is generally believed that Miaoshan is the Guanyin Bodhisattva in Buddhism.
When we face the troubles of the world, can we find peace in Baique Temple? Can our confusion about the future be influenced by the wonderful thoughts of kindness, from ordinary wonderful kindness to the sacred Guanyin Bodhisattva? Only by persisting in practice at every step can we achieve greatness. Can we ordinary people also move forward bravely and actively do good on the path we choose?
