Five surnames of Baoyi in Shouxian County

The five surnames in Shouxian refer to "Zhang, Hong, Chang, Xia and Huang".

The traditional folk custom of Baoyi in Shouxian County-playing dragon lanterns on February 2nd has a long history. According to legend, the five surnames Zhang, Hong, Chang, Xia and Huang moved into the town in the Ming Dynasty. Due to the high terrain and frequent droughts in Baoyi Town, the five surnames agreed to dance dragon lanterns on the second day of the second lunar month every year, praying for good weather, which has continued to this day.

In the past, at the beginning of the dragon show, five big tents burned incense and set off firecrackers in the Fifth Ring Temple, and then started a large-scale dragon dance. Dragon dancers are all strong laborers. Dragon lanterns are everywhere, and the majestic gongs and drums are clear. When they pass in front of the residents in the street, the residents will set off firecrackers that have already been prepared. According to folk regulations, dragon dancers can't stop dancing until fireworks and firecrackers are set off. Therefore, if you meet a rich family, fireworks and firecrackers will come one after another, and long dragons will keep flying up and down in the smoke. The scene is very spectacular.
