Baltimore is an important seaport city on the Atlantic coast of the United States. It is located on the west side of the top of the Chesapeake Bay, only more than 60 kilometers away from Washington, the capital of the United States. The port area is located near the mouth of the Patapasco River.

There is still a 250-kilometer voyage from here to the vast Atlantic Ocean through the bay. However, due to the superior natural conditions near the port, the wide Chesapeake Bay and the deep channel, 10,000-ton ocean-going ships can sail directly into the Baltimore Port area. Baltimore City is surrounded by Baltimore County but is not part of Baltimore County. It is the only independent city in Maryland.

Baltimore is an important cultural city in the eastern United States. Famous scientific research institutions and universities include the Johns Hopkins Institute of Applied Chemistry, the National Institutes of Health, and Johns Hopkins University. The Ohio Transportation Museum in Baltimore is famous for preserving various locomotives and displaying the history of locomotive development. The city also has many cultural treasures and memorial sites reflecting the early history of the United States, and is known as the "Eternal City". It is the birthplace of the United States national anthem, the original manuscript of which remains at the Maryland Historical Society. Mount Vernon Square stands with the Washington Monument (built in 1815, 62 meters high) and the Battle Monument for the Defense of Fort McHenry.
There are 61 federal research institutions and more than 30 colleges and universities. The famous Johns Hopkins University was founded in 1876 and is one of the famous private universities in the United States. It was donated US$7 million by local wealthy businessman Hopkins. Since its establishment, it has placed special emphasis on scientific research and first established a doctoral degree program. The school's medical school and hospital are world-renowned medical centers. It emphasizes research and is second only to Harvard University in the United States. There are some special departments in this hospital that are not found in other hospitals. For example, the hematology department is well-equipped and quite famous.
