2. Land swamping

(1) forest swamp

If the forest is in a relatively humid area, then it is cut down or the forest is burned by fire. Then herbaceous plants proliferate in large numbers, which on the one hand hinders the growth of woody plants, on the other hand becomes a hotbed of bryophytes, and finally forms a bryophyte swamp. This is a forest swamp.

(2) Marsh meadow

The surface has been in an over-wet state for a long time, especially under the influence of river flooding and adjacent water marshes, which makes the groundwater level rise or rise to the surface, causing the meadow to be over-wet, leading to water accumulation in low-lying areas, forming an anaerobic environment in the soil, and the dead organic matter slowly decomposes under the action of anaerobic bacteria to form a peat layer. This is a meadow swamp.

In addition, the flat coastal zone between the high and low water levels can also form a swamp. On the ancient planation plane, wide river terraces and even flat watersheds in alpine or plateau permafrost regions, the frozen soil layer hinders the infiltration of surface water, and even if the precipitation is not abundant, the surface can still be in an over-wet state, forming a swamp.
