The development history of Wufeng Mountain Scenic Area
Wufeng Mountain was formed in the Archean Era, the oldest geological era in the history of the earth’s crust.
The earliest records of development can be traced back to the Qin and Han Dynasties. According to the "Reconstruction of Li Gong Stele on Wufeng Mountain" in the seventh year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty, "Looking at the seals on stele and seals of past dynasties, there are records of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty granting Zen, and Li Sizhi Xiaozhuan exists." From this we can see that not only was it developed during the Tai and Han Dynasties, but it also had considerable status and popularity.
According to the records of "Wufeng Mountain Chronicles": "Wufeng Mountain was built in the Qin Dynasty, flourished in the Northern Wei Dynasty, expanded in the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, prospered in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, and became dirty in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties." The statues in the Lotus Cave Grottoes on the cliff on the west side of Juxian Peak were carved between the Eastern Wei Dynasty and the Sui Dynasty, more than 1,400 years ago. It can be seen that Buddhism developed here during the Southern and Northern Dynasties.
But for some reason, Taoism flourished here again during the Jin and Yuan Dynasties. The Taoist temple was unprecedentedly large, covering an area of 2,085 acres.
It became more prosperous in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and was divided into southern and northern temples.
Beiguan is called "Dongzhen Temple", and the existing palaces, pavilions, platforms, etc. are mainly concentrated in Beiguan.
Nanguan was originally Xuandu Temple, also known as Yuandu Temple.
The address is 0.5 kilometers south of Dongzhen Temple at the southern foot of Foshan. It is the incense courtyard of King Mingde.
In the first year of Tianshun (1457), Emperor Yingzong of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Qizhen, granted his second son Zhu Jianming the title of King of De. His first residence was Dezhou, and later it was changed to Jinan.
In the third year of Chenghua of Xuanzong (1469), Zhu Jianming went to Jinan to join the feudal vassalage. Until the twelfth year of Chongzhen, Zhu Youshu, the king of virtue, was captured by Qing soldiers. In the seven dynasties of the Qing Dynasty, there were six virtues in 172 years. The tombs of kings (namely King Dezhuang, King Deyi, King Dehuai, King Demu, King Deding and King Deduan) are here.
There are courtyard walls and gates built around the cemetery. In front of the gate are exquisite stone carvings of horses, sheep and animals, which are magnificent and solemn.
Judging from the tomb of King Dezhuang excavated in recent years, it is of great value for understanding and studying the history, culture and imperial funeral system of the Ming Dynasty.
According to research, Wufengshan Taoist Temple is the birthplace of the Longmen sect of Quanzhen religion.
Qiu Chuji, Hao Datong and Liu Changsheng, three of the "Northern Seven Trues", once came here to preach.
Its main activities are concentrated in Beiguan.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, Wufeng Mountain ranked ninth among the famous Taoist mountains, and in the Ming Dynasty, it ranked 12th.
In history, Taoism in Wufeng Mountain has been conferred four times by the emperor: in the third year of Dading reign of Emperor Shizong of the Jin Dynasty, it was granted the title of "Yuan of Wanshou"; in the reign of Zhenyou of Jin Xuanzong, it was granted the title of "Dongzhen Temple"; in the Yuan Dynasty, it was granted the title of It was named the "Xu Palace of Protecting the Country"; in the 22nd year of Wanli, the Quanzhen Taoist Zhou Xuanzhen sent by Zhu Yijun, the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, praised and issued 480 letters of the "Tao Zang" Golden Sutra, and was named the "Palace of Protecting the Country and Longevity".
In order to worship his mother, Empress Dowager Li, Zhu Yijun built a luxurious Nine Lotus Hall in Wufeng Mountain. He named the Empress Dowager the "Nine Lotus Bodhisattva" and ordered Zhou Xuanzhen to build a mountain to rebuild the Wufeng Taoist Temple and "create a palace." The temples are lofty, the golden walls are shining, and it is said to be extremely prosperous. "Looking at the remaining historical sites, it is not difficult to imagine the grand scene of the ancient Taoist temples in Wufeng Mountain surrounded by smoke.
At present, the historical and cultural sites and buildings that can be visited and viewed in Wufeng Mountain include the Imperial Palace Gate Archway, Wuchao Gate, Sanqing Hall, Jade Emperor Hall, Bixia Palace, Zhenwu Hall, and Longshou Palace Stone.
