Geography of Uglegorsk

Location: On the western coast of Sakhalin Island. Facing the Tatar Strait. About 239 kilometers northwest of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Climate type: temperate monsoon climate. Southeast wind prevails in summer, and strong north wind prevails in winter, with strong wind and waves.

Temperature: The average annual temperature in winter is -10℃. About 15℃ in summer. From January to March every year, the ice period is within 1n mile from the shore. The thickness does not exceed 0.3m and does not hinder navigation.

Rainfall: The average rainfall throughout the year is about 1000mm.
