Why is Zhao Qianling in Xiaozhuang built outside the Feng Shui wall?
The mausoleum seat faces south, and the architectural layout from south to north is: Dismount Row, Tombstone Pavilion, East-West Supermarket, East-West Duty Room, Long 'enmen, Three-glazed Flower Gate, East-West Liao Furnace, East-West Affiliated Hall, Long 'entang, Lingmen, Taishi Martial Arts, Fangcheng, Minglou, Baocheng and Baoding, with underground palace under Baoding. There is a kitchen for sacrifice in front of the east side of the mausoleum.
In the 26th year of Kangxi (1687), Empress Xiaozhuang died of illness and was ordered to be buried near Xiaoling. According to the ancestral system, Empress Xiaozhuangwen was buried with Huang Taiji and was buried in Zhaojing, Shengjing (Shenyang). She didn't want to destroy the ancestral system and go against her grandmother's wishes, so she had to build a temporary Anfengtang in Dongling and put her grandmother's favorite bedroom-one on the east side of Cining Palace in Zicheng. Failing to solve the problem of Xiao Zhuang's mausoleum, in the third year of Yongzheng (1725), Sejong thought this place was quite auspicious on the grounds that Xiao Zhuang's tomb had been in power for a long time, so he changed the temporary Anfeng Hall to Zhao Qianling's tomb, and started construction on the third day of February in Yongzheng, and buried Xiao Zhuang Wen 'an in the underground palace on December 10 of the same year.
Compared with other Empresses' Mausoleums in Qing Dynasty, the architectural regulations of Zhaoxi Mausoleum are very unique: 1. The Long 'en Hall in other cemeteries is the rest peak, and the Long 'en Hall in Zhaoxiling is the top of the fairy hall. 2. There is only one gate in front of Long 'en Temple in other tombs, but Zhao Qianling's tomb has two gates, and accordingly, the cemetery has built two internal and external walls. 3. No manger ditch was excavated in front of the mausoleum, and no three-hole arch bridge was built.
Empress Xiaozhuang Wen is the highest-ranking person buried in Dongling. Later generations have great respect for her. Every time the emperor goes to Dongling, he must pay homage here first, and then go to other cemeteries.
