Why are teeth easy to hurt in cold weather?

Generally speaking, the main cause of toothache is oral diseases.

Such as dental caries, acute pulpitis, periodontitis, acute and chronic periapical periodontitis, dentin hypersensitivity, cracked teeth or broken roots. Toothache caused by dental caries is caused by a hole in the tooth. When it is stimulated by cold, heat, acid, sweetness or food is embedded in the hole, it will feel toothache. Toothache can stop immediately after removing the stimulating factors. Toothache caused by acute pulpitis is characterized by spontaneous and paroxysmal pain, which is aggravated by cold or heat stimulation or rest at night. Although the mechanism of toothache caused by other reasons is different, one thing is the same, that is, the pain is aggravated when stimulated by cold or heat.

It is cold in winter. When people breathe air, their teeth will indirectly come into contact with cold air. Especially when you have a cold and a stuffy nose, your teeth have more contact with cold air, which will naturally lead to toothache. Of course, heat stimulation can also easily cause toothache. For example, eating while hot, especially alternating hot and cold, will greatly increase the incidence of toothache.

Other meteorological factors in winter, such as humidity, wind and sunshine, also have direct or indirect effects on toothache. Winter is the off-season of vegetables, the air is relatively dry, and people are prone to get angry and cause toothache. Modern meteorological health care research has confirmed that periodontitis and gingival bleeding are easy to occur when the cold front crosses the border or is controlled by cold air masses. In windy (especially northerly) weather, periodontitis is easy to attack. The incidence of dental caries is high in winter and early spring, and low in summer. This is mainly because there is less sunshine in winter and early spring, weak ultraviolet radiation and less vitamin D in the body, which is prone to dental caries.

From the above, it can be seen that dental care in winter should not only maintain oral hygiene, but also pay attention to weather changes, eat more fruits and vegetables, and properly supplement vitamin D to avoid hot and cold stimulation of teeth.
