What are the traditional festivals of the Dong nationality, Dong Daughter's Day?

Many ethnic groups in the world have festivals dedicated to commemorating their female members. In China, there is also Daughter's Day, which is a festival for girls married by the Dong people to go home and celebrate with their relatives. Let Bian Xiao introduce you to the traditional festival of Dong nationality-Daughter's Day.

Daughter's Day is a traditional festival of Dong people in the border area of Hunan, Guizhou and Guangxi. It is held on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month every year. It is said that this festival comes from Yang of Dong nationality. On Girls' Day, all the married girls will go back to their parents' home, make black rice and black rice cakes with their sisters, sing and laugh, and celebrate the festival. After the festival, these married girls will also bring some ebony rice cakes back to their parents-in-law's house and distribute them to relatives and friends so that they can enjoy the delicious food of the festival.

There is a legend about the origin of Daughter's Day: A long time ago, Yang Bamei, a Dong heroine, led people to resist the oppression of the imperial court. Unexpectedly, the uprising failed, and her brother was imprisoned in the prison of Liuzhou Neiluocheng, and was sentenced to beheading in the autumn.

Then one day, Yang Bamei visited the prison and saw her brother looking pale and dying. She asked him, "Do you still have courage?" My brother replied, "I have courage, but I have never had a full meal in prison. I am too hungry to get excited."

Knowing that my brother's courage is still there, I just don't have enough to eat every day. Yang Bamei made a plan, went home and cooked three barrels of six-liter-meter black rice for her brother on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month. After eating, my brother had the strength to break away from the shackles and work hard with his eight sisters in Inner Mongolia.

Yang Bamei shot a roaring arrow in Inner Mongolia, ambushed the enemy ahead of time, and made great efforts to break through Liuzhou City. She won the struggle with the ruler, told each other and raised her hand to celebrate. In order to commemorate the heroine of the Yang family, future generations designated the eighth day of the fourth lunar month as Daughter's Day.
