Dandong is located in the southeast of Liaoning province, facing the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's Xinyi City across the river in the east, the Yellow Sea in the south, Anshan in the west, Dalian in the southwest and Benxi in the north. Geographical coordinates are 124 23' east longitude and 4 7' north latitude. The maximum horizontal distance from east to west is 196 kilometers, the maximum vertical distance from north to south is 16 kilometers, and the coastline is 12 kilometers long.

Dandong is the starting point of the northern end of China's coastline, located in the center of Northeast Asia, and an important intersection of the Northeast Asian economic circle and the economic circles around Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea. It is a city along the river, along the coast and along the border with industry, commerce, logistics and tourism as the main body.
