What is torque converter stall speed?
Hydraulic torque converter is a hydraulic component composed of pump wheel, turbine and guide wheel. Installed between the engine and the transmission, using hydraulic oil (ATF) as the working medium, it plays the role of torque transmission, torque change, speed change and clutch.
The liquid flow of hydraulic torque converter is divided into vortex and circulation. The direction of the vortex is from the pump to the turbine, to the guide wheel, and finally to the pump wheel, and so on. The direction of circulation is that the liquid moves around the axis with the working wheel. The spiral direction after the synthesis of circulation and vortex is the actual liquid flow direction.
In the forward gear (D) or reverse gear (R), when the brake pedal is depressed and the accelerator pedal is fully depressed, the engine is in the maximum torque state. At this time, the output shaft and input shaft of the automatic transmission are stationary, the turbine of the torque converter is stationary, and only the torque converter housing and pump wheel rotate with the engine. This situation is called stall state, and the engine speed at this time is called stall speed.
Stall test is used to check whether the output power of brakes and clutches in engine, torque converter and automatic transmission works normally.
