Is the Shanghai Sanlin Temple Fair usually held?

Sanlin Temple Fair, to be precise, it should be the Shanghai Folk Culture Festival. In the first year, it was held by Sanlin itself. It was called the March Banshengtang Temple Fair (the fifteenth day of the third month in the lunar calendar). It has always happened in history. Later it broke off and Sanlin recovered. The following sessions were jointly organized by some urban units such as the Tourism Bureau and upgraded to the Shanghai Folk Culture Festival. The festival usually lasts for about a week to half a month. There are many distinctive folk skills and snacks, which are like a hodgepodge. There are also many performances from other provinces and cities, other ethnic groups, and some foreign friends. Overall, during the festival, It's still quite lively and crowded. The old street is less than a kilometer long, so you won’t spend a long time shopping. It mainly houses some folk exhibition halls, such as the embroidery hall, the porcelain carving hall, and the famous local dragon and lion dance performances, City God Touring is quite interesting for modern city dwellers.

However, after the festival, during normal times, there are almost no tourists on this old street, and there are still many local residents. After the broadcast of "A Bite of China", the local restaurants on the old street stopped. It is famous and many people come to order food every day, but some other stores rarely see tourists. But if the weather is nice, it’s quite comfortable to sit by the river and drink tea and chat.

I have experienced and participated in the development of Sanlin over the years, and was present at every temple fair. Sanlintang Old Street is also called an ancient town. Its architectural form and ancient town texture are actually relatively ordinary, and it does not have the style of a real ancient town. The renovation of the facades of the street buildings is also so-so, but it is very close to the urban area, and there are many The folk custom intangible cultural heritage seems to be a unique and quiet place in the city. If there is investment and overall protection and renovation concepts, it should become a new leisure place in Shanghai. Unfortunately, it develops slowly and encounters bottlenecks. I sincerely hope that it can come alive and become popular.

To add, this year it should open on April 27th.
