What is cornice?

I recently arrived in Qingdao and listened to my friends' introduction. I didn't want to visit anything else. I first went to the villa area left by the former European colonists. The architecture here is really amazing. Those beautiful roofs, bold colors and exquisite texture all make people who have never been to Europe linger. The street trees in the villa area are tall and beautiful French phoenix trees; Buildings in red, yellow and blue are shaded by lush trees. Accustomed to the bald flat-roofed buildings in the city, at first glance, you must be surprised to find a small oasis in a desert.

In some seashores in Hainan and some scenic places around other cities, I have also seen many "villa areas" which are called "European classics", and their architectural styles are indeed European-like. But no matter how you look at these buildings, it doesn't feel appropriate, and it takes up such a good land of feng shui. What's wrong? I'm not an expert, and I can't tell you why. I always feel that I lack the aura of others and the spirit of pursuing perfection in details. If an architect does not win the essence of western culture, imitating others will eventually become superficial; And if those of us who buy houses have no appreciation ability, it is no wonder that others want to build these poor products to fool us.

I sometimes wonder why everyone should imitate Europe when building villas now, instead of our old tradition.

I haven't seen the traditional buildings in other countries with my own eyes, but I have seen some pictures and materials. In my opinion, the royal buildings in China are elegant, exquisite and gorgeous, and the royal momentum of harmony between man and nature is incomparable to the traditional buildings in other Egyptian countries: although they are magnificent, they still reveal a little childlike innocence. I also think the traditional folk architecture in China is very good: if you have been to some southern towns, such as Zhouzhuang and Lijiang, it is completely different from any city you have ever seen ... Wandering in these beautiful buildings in Zhong Ling, you will feel that life is very rich, even if your wallet is not too bulging.

However, it seems that the tradition of our ancestors is not favored by modern people. Perhaps the traditional architectural art in China is too monotonous, always red, golden and glazed tiles, or gray and black. It's almost the same, but it's just a cornice or something In contrast, those European-style buildings in Qingdao are more lively and lively, so they are more in line with modern people's tastes: they are bold in color, such as red, pink, goose yellow, and even green and blue ... You may never have thought that these colors can also be used on the external walls of buildings before seeing them; The appearance of the building is also more lively, unlike us, who just fly off the eaves and become warped, and are steady.

Speaking of the color of buildings, I have noticed that many cities have begun to paint the exterior walls of buildings. For example, many old buildings in Beijing are painted with red paint, which makes them look much more beautiful under the shade of green trees, which is also a great progress.

However, the days when every stone and wood was carefully polished when building a house are gone forever. Only a handful of rich people can enjoy such luxury, and they still get a lot of discounts. Ordinary people like us, only in the ruins of the past, in books, look for seclusion and visit the ancient times, looking for that once leisure.

I wandered around the alley near the Forbidden City the other day, and accidentally broke into a courtyard with an open door but no one. In the middle was a tall and spacious courtyard with a lot of sundries piled up. Obviously, several families lived here. Surrounded by a two-story wooden building with a cloister, I looked up at the carved railing on the second floor. Although it was tattered and blackened by years, its exquisite workmanship still made me feel amazing.

and many years ago, the railing here was just a railing, and no one was surprised by it. People stand by the railing, watch the wind and rain, chat and play, or shake their minds about the future.
