Why is Putuo Mountain Guanyin Dojo?
In the 12th year of the Tang Dynasty (AD 858), Hua Hui, a Japanese monk, first left a statue of Guanyin here and built a temple. Later, because Hua Yan Jing was said to be auspicious in Luojia, Putuo, the island was invited to be named Putuo, and another island in the southeast of Putuo Mountain was named Luojiashan. According to legend, Guanyin Bodhisattva once appeared here, so temples in Putuo Mountain generally worship Guanyin.
According to legend, in the Tang Dynasty, a Japanese monk, Hua Hui, went to Wutai Mountain to meet the Guanyin statue, and his boat sank on his way home. Japanese monks thought Guanyin Bodhisattva didn't want to go to Japan, so they enshrined Guanyin statue in the tidal cave of Putuo Mountain. Can you still see it in Putuo Mountain Scenic Area today? Guanyin image is a male image in India, and it was also a bearded male image before the Tang Dynasty in China, but it became feminine after the Tang Dynasty. Most of the Guanyin statues we see today are women. As for why this change happened, it is said that Guanyin has 33 incarnations, among which there are many female images; On the other hand, it is because beautiful and gentle women can better reflect the bodhisattva's compassion and help the poor, and can also cater to the psychology of believers. As for some avalokitesvara bodhisattvas, they are shaped like thousands of eyes, mainly to show that bodhisattvas have infinite magic and wisdom.
Putuo is divided into two mountains, centered on helping Sage. Fusang Temple is located at the foot of Lingbi Mountain, also known as Si Qian. The temple covers an area of more than 20 mu, and there are many buildings along the central axis, such as Mountain Temple, Tianwang Hall, Tongyuanbaozui, Tibetan Scripture Building, Abbot Hall and Inner Altar. There is an 8.8-meter-high statue of Guanyin in Pelu, surrounded by 32 Avatars of Guanyin, which was rebuilt in recent years.
The Hai Yin Pool in front of the temple, also known as the Lotus Pool, covers an area of 10 mu, and was originally a Buddhist pool. In the south, there is the Imperial Monument Pavilion in the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, and in the east, there are exquisite and beautiful pagodas. The five-story building is 32 meters high, and the whole tower is made of Taihu stone. It was raised and built by Buddhist monks in Fuzhong in the Yuan Dynasty, and it has a strong meta-style.
Fayu Temple, also known as Housi Temple, was built in the eighth year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty (AD 1580) and was given in the thirty-eighth year of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty. How does smallpox rain? The plaque was renamed Fayu Temple with a building area of 7,350 square meters. Dayuantong Temple in the temple is the most famous, with towering ancient trees in front of it, especially the two tall ginkgo trees. There are many strange stones in Putuo Mountain, which is a major feature. Famous? Heart? The word stone is about seven meters wide and is engraved with a huge? Heart? Apart from temples and strange stones, the caves in Putuo Mountain are also very distinctive, the most famous of which are Yin Chao Cave and Brahma Cave. They are all legendary places where Guanyin appeared, but in fact they are all sea caves formed by the long-term impact of waves.
Tidal hole is tens of meters high and has two doors. On the first door, Kangxi imperial pen? Tidal point? Three words. Wandering waves come in and out of the water day and night, and the sound of the waves is like thunder. The height of Brahma Cave is about 100 meter. The two walls are steep and close to each other like doors. There is a huge stone ball in the hole, and the whole hole is like a giant clam inlaid with pearls. Visitors can bypass the stone platform at the waist of the cave from the mountain road, enjoy the sea view and listen to the tide. Tides come and go, and the sound of the tides is like tigers roaring and dragons leaping, which is really thrilling.
Luojiashan is another small island in the southeast of Putuo. Pilgrims who came to Putuo Mountain used to go to Luojia Mountain, because it is said that Guanyin used to practice in Luojia Mountain, and later defeated the snake king before jumping from Luojia Mountain to Putuo Mountain.
Up to now, there is a big footprint left by Guanyin on the boulder of Yinnan Beach in Dong Dynasty, which is one foot four inches long and six inches wide. Guanyin jump? . Buddhism claims that Guanyin's birthday is February 19, the day of enlightenment is June 19, and the day of nirvana is September 19. In the past three days, the number of people facing the mountains has increased, and the temple has also held a grand Guanyin ceremony. February 19 was particularly lively. The believers carried yellow cloth bags and climbed up Foding Mountain in droves. The lights in the temple were on all night, and they were familiar with the practice of Da Dan.
