People from the Northeast Meteorological Department are invited to come in (about the causes of blizzards)

Large-scale heavy rainfall and heavy snowstorms occurred in northern my country. The extreme weather process caused the worst snowstorms since 1951 in Liaoning, Jilin and other places, and severe cooling of 20℃-30℃ occurred in some areas of northern North China. Between the 3rd and 5th alone, the Central Meteorological Observatory issued 6 cold wave warnings and 6 blizzard warnings. Under severe weather conditions, agriculture, electricity, and transportation in some places have been severely affected.

Although the extreme weather process gradually disappeared from the 6th, people can't help but ask, what is the reason for such rare weather in early spring? In this regard, meteorological experts from the Central Meteorological Observatory provided answers.

Qiao Lin, deputy director of the Weather Forecast Office of the Central Meteorological Observatory, said that there are three main reasons for the lack of heavy snowfall in more than 50 years:

First, due to the high early temperature, warm air (southern airflow) ) is active, and warm air and cold air (northern wind) converge over the Huanghuai region to form a cyclonic circulation (Huanghuai cyclone).

Second, the sea surface temperature was relatively high in the early stage, which caused the Huanghuai cyclone to move eastward into the sea and develop strongly. The easterly and southerly winds in the north and east of the cyclone blow warm and moist air from the sea over the land, bringing abundant moisture.

Third, the eastward-moving strong cold air (northern wind) from the north and the warm and humid air flow (easterly or southerly wind) meet over the northeastern region, resulting in convergent upward motion, coupled with the lifting effect of the cold air The rising movement of air is strengthened, forming a deep precipitation cloud system. The unusually deep precipitation cloud system caused heavy snowfalls that had not been seen in more than 50 years in Liaoning and other places.

Qiao Lin said that in short, this heavy precipitation was based on the earlier high air temperature and sea surface temperature. The development of the Huanghuai cyclone into the sea brought abundant water vapor and strong cold air, which significantly strengthened the upward movement. Produced under the simultaneous action of factors.

Meteorological experts suggest that in the face of changing weather conditions, the northern region should pay attention to strengthening the anti-freeze protection of livestock and winter wheat in pastoral areas; the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River must strengthen the prevention of farmland waterlogging disasters and do a good job in farmland The supporting construction of ditches can promptly remove accumulated water in the fields and reduce the impact of waterlogging disasters; early rice in South China will enter the stage of large-scale sowing and seedling cultivation, and measures should be taken in various places to avoid the impact of cold air on early rice sowing.
