The history of rice planting in Yunnan Province has exceeded 4,000 years, and it can now be divided into single-cropping rice areas, double-cropping rice areas, and regenerating rice areas.

1. First-season rice area

(1) Including Diqing, Nujiang, Dali, Lijiang, Zhaotong, Chuxiong, Kunming, Qujing, and major rice-producing areas around Kunming (Yiliang , Chenggong, Songming, Fumin, Jinning) and other places.

(2) The sowing time is mostly from February to April, and the harvest time is mostly from September to October.

2. Double-cropping rice area

(1) Suitable for development in river valleys with an altitude of no more than 1,500 meters in Yunnan Province, mainly including Honghe, Dehong, Pu'er, Xishuangbanna, Lin Warm and humid areas in Cang, Wenshan and other prefectures and cities.

(2) The sowing time of early rice is generally December, and the sowing time of late rice is generally July. The harvest time of early rice is generally June-July, and the harvest time of late rice is generally November.

3. Regeneration rice area

(1) Mainly includes areas where light and heat conditions cannot meet the needs of two-season rice planting (but there is room for one-season rice planting), including Xishuangbanna (Jinghong, Menghai), Pu'er (Jinggu, Zhenyuan), Lincang, Dehong, Wenshan, Honghe, Kaiyuan, Jianshui and other counties and cities.

(2) The sowing time is mostly January, the harvest time of first-crop rice is August-September, and the harvest time of second-crop rice is November.

2. Several seasons of rice in Yunnan Province

1. The rice ripening system in Yunnan Province is related to the local terrain. In mountainous and plateau areas, one season of rice is usually planted in a year. The area can be planted for 2-3 seasons.

2. Rice likes to grow in an environment with high temperature, high humidity, and short daylight. The requirements for soil are not strict, but it will be more suitable to use rice soil for planting.

3. The minimum temperature for seedlings to germinate is about 10-12℃, and the suitable temperature is about 28-32℃. After entering the tillering stage, the daily average temperature is required to exceed 20℃. The suitable temperature for panicle differentiation is around 30°C. Low temperature weather will prolong the differentiation time of branches, stems and spikelets.

4. The appropriate temperature for the heading stage of rice is 25-35°C, and the appropriate temperature for the flowering stage is around 30°C. If the temperature is below 20°C or above 40°C, it will seriously affect pollination.
