Why build Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge?

For nearly a hundred years, it has been the wish of millions of people to build the Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan. In the third year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty, Taiping Army paved a pontoon bridge on the Yangtze River between turtles and snakes. In the late Qing Dynasty, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications began to plan the construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. Sun Yat-sen also put forward the idea of connecting Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang into a city by bridges or tunnels in the General Plan for the Founding of the People's Republic of China.

Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is the first bridge built on the natural moat Yangtze River after the founding of New China. It is also the first bridge of the Yangtze River since ancient times. It is the first double-track railway and highway bridge in China. Upon completion, it will become the main artery connecting the north and south of China, and play an important role in promoting the economic development of the north and south.

After the completion of the bridge, the three towns in Wuhan will be integrated, which will greatly promote the development of Wuhan. From a national macro point of view, the significance of the completion of the bridge is to connect the Beijing-Guangzhou railway and make the north-south railway transportation of the Yangtze River smooth.
