Why is it so cold this year?

Affected by Siberian high and East Asian winter monsoon

The most direct cause of the recent large-scale low temperature is the Siberian high and the strong winter monsoon in East Asia, which has led to the frequent invasion of Beijing and North China by strong cold air brought by strong northwest wind since February 2020. This extreme low temperature weather process is the result of continuous low temperature caused by the cold wave weather process from February 28 to February 30, 2020.

At the same time, windy weather makes the wind-cold superposition effect obvious. In 20021year, the lowest temperature at many stations fell below the historical extreme, and the lowest temperature at 20 national weather stations in Beijing was below-18℃, and the lowest temperature at 10/0 station fell below the historical extreme in the same period, including Shijingshan, Tongzhou, Shunyi, Changping, Xiayunling and Shangdianzi.

Extended data:

In 20021year, the lowest temperature at the observatory in the southern suburbs of Beijing was-19.6℃, which was the lowest after February 1966. As far as the whole country is concerned, due to the influence of strong cold air, large-scale gale and strong cooling weather began to appear in the central and eastern regions of China on June 6, 20021year.

In the nonlinear system of global climate, "global warming" cannot directly correspond to the results of "warm winter", "cold winter" or "whether a process is cold or not" like a simple connection problem. The general trend of global warming has not changed, but there will be cold and warm fluctuations on the interannual scale.
