Direction 4: Develop a regional mesoscale numerical weather forecast model system. Shanghai Typhoon Research Institute of China Meteorological Bureau is a national public welfare research institute with basic research and applied basic research as its main development direction. Undertake scientific research projects from different sources such as the state, departments and localities. Through the efforts of the scientific researchers in the institute, great efforts have been made in the theoretical study of tropical cyclone path, intensity and structural changes, the research of tropical cyclone ensemble forecasting technology, the numerical simulation of tropical cyclones, the development of sea-land-air coupling model, and the processing of tropical cyclone monitoring information. Over the years, researchers of Typhoon Research Institute have published a large number of academic papers in domestic and foreign journals, and individuals and collectives have won provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress awards for many times. Many scientific research achievements have been used in the economic construction of water conservancy, electric power, ports and other industries to serve social development.
