Where is the driest area in China?
Located in the south of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in the west of China, it is the collective name of six national poverty-stricken counties such as Xiji, Haiyuan, Guyuan, Longde, Jingyuan and Pengyang in the loess hilly region. 1972 was identified by the United Nations Food Development Programme as one of the most unsuitable areas for human survival. It belongs to the arid area of the Loess Plateau, located at the southwest edge of the Loess Plateau, with numerous gullies, gullies, plateaus, headlands, beams, gullies and rivers, and belongs to the loess hilly area in southern Ningxia. The annual average temperature here is 3~8℃, the extreme maximum temperature is 39.3℃, and the extreme minimum temperature is -30℃. The frost-free period of the whole year is 90~ 100 days, the annual rainfall is between 200~700 mm, mostly concentrated in June ~ September, with more hail, and the annual evaporation is between 1000~2400 mm, belonging to temperate continent. Due to thousands of years of running water cutting and blind farming, soil erosion is serious. Except for a few river valleys and terraces, living conditions in most places are extremely poor, and other natural disasters are frequent. The State Council has been identified as one of the three major poverty alleviation areas in the west.
