Why is it so dry this year?

Wang Yongguang, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center, said, "The current low water level in the Yangtze River is mainly due to the lack of rain in the Yangtze River basin some time ago."

Statistics show that since the flood season this year (65438+1 October1May 18), the precipitation in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is unusually low. The average precipitation in seven provinces and cities of Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai is 242 mm, which is 245 mm less than the normal period. Among them, the precipitation in Hubei, Zhejiang, Anhui, Shanghai and other places is the least in the same period since meteorological records were recorded, and the precipitation in central and eastern Hubei, northern Hunan, northwestern Jiangxi, central and southern Anhui, central and southern Jiangsu, central and northern Zhejiang, and Shanghai is 50% to 80% less than normal.

"The main reason for the lack of rain is that cold air is frequent in winter and spring this year, and the transportation of warm and humid water vapor from the south to the north is affected." Li Duan, chief expert of Meteorological Service Center of China Meteorological Bureau, explained.

Due to the decrease of precipitation, severe drought occurred in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, especially in Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui and other provinces. The water level in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River was once the lowest or near the lowest in the same period in history, which was related to the fact that the precipitation from June to May in this area was 50% to 80% less than the average in the same period in the past 60 years.

It is normal that the rainy season from March to May is widespread in South China and North China, but now the natural climate is getting worse and worse, and the drought situation is more serious than before.
