What's the story of Dai bamboo house?
Most Dai villages in Xishuangbanna are located on the Pingba River. Bamboo house, hidden in the bamboo forest, looks like a shadow from afar, and looks neat and orderly at close range. It is small and unique, exquisite and unique.
Bamboo house, as its name implies, is a house made of bamboo. This ancient Gan Lan-style building looks like a golden peacock jumping and opening its screen. It stands in the bamboo forest with the dance of "Golden Rooster Independence", like a huge tent hidden between the blue sky and green land.
According to legend, the inventor and founder of the bamboo house is the ancient youth Paya Samuti. He is brave and kind, and wants to build a bamboo house for the Dai family with rich local bamboo, so that people will no longer inhabit the jungle and tree trunks. He thought hard all day, conceived several times, experimented several times and failed several times. One day, it rained heavily and Paya Samuti happened to see a dog lying on the ground. Rainwater flows down from top to bottom along the thick dog hair, but there is no water on the dog. Inspired by this, he first tried to build a sloping doghead hut. Later, the heavenly king Bai Yaying turned into a phoenix, constantly waving his wings at him and making the roof into a herringbone. Phoenix shook his head again, indicating that both sides of the house should be covered with things to shelter people from the wind and rain. Phoenix also suggested to Paya Sang Mu that she wanted to build the house into a high-rise building with two floors. Paya Sammuti built a house for the people according to the will of the king of heaven, and finally built a Daijia bamboo building standing like a golden peacock.
Now, I walk into the bamboo fence of Dai family, climb the wooden ladder, and come to the outdoor corridor and balcony upstairs. On the balcony, there are bamboo tubes and water tanks for daily use, which are necessary furniture for Dai family to fetch water and store water for cooking, wash hands and feet. Some bamboo buildings also have showers and baths. Although the small balcony is simple in structure, it is a good place for people to enjoy the cool or do manual and needlework. The building is divided into a main room and a bedroom. The main room is located at an entrance, with spacious space and large bamboo mats, where guests can eat, chat and discuss various affairs. Each hall has a fire pit, holding a triangular iron frame to set up a pot and discussing various matters. All the halls have fire pits, which support the triangular iron frame and are used for cooking and cooking. Passing through the main hall is a dormitory separated by thick bamboo sticks or wooden boards, where families of generations will sit and sleep. People outside are not allowed to enter. The overall structure of Dai bamboo building is not only beautiful in appearance, reasonable and firm in structure, but also reasonable in layout. Especially in summer, the ventilation is cool, which is most suitable for the rainy and hot weather in Xishuangbanna. Moreover, the building is divided into two floors, and people live upstairs, which can avoid or reduce the invasion of poisonous snakes and poisonous insects. Downstairs can be used to raise chickens, ducks, cattle, sheep and livestock, and can also be used to pile up sundries and store common farm tools.
Xishuangbanna is rich in bamboo, with a wide variety and good texture, which is convenient for users to use local materials. There are many bamboos used in bamboo buildings, with dozens of large columns and small columns. Some even used as many as a hundred. Bamboo house, worthy of the name, its beams, columns, wallboard, nails, wedges and other components used to connect all parts are made of bamboo materials, which are used to combine and connect into a complete bamboo house. The bamboo building designed and built by Dai Jia is unique in shape, beautiful and practical.
