What is mindfulness? When you have righteous thoughts, do you have correct understanding?

There are four kinds of mindfulness, namely:

Body mindfulness: remembering the body without forgetting it;

The seat of mindfulness of feelings: never forget the memory of feelings;

The seat of mindfulness: never forget the memory of the mind;

The seat of mindfulness of Dharma: the memory of the Dharma Never forget.

So mindfulness is to keep the mind on the four objects of body, feeling, mind and dharma, and remember them clearly and never forget them.

The characteristic (or characteristic) of mindfulness is that it sinks into the object, like a stone sinking into a pond, rather than like a hollow gourd floating on the water. Mindfulness sinks itself and its corresponding mental phenomena into the object of meditation. When you practice mindfulness of mindfulness, your mindfulness must sink into the breath.

The function (or taste) of mindfulness is not to forget the object of meditation; it continuously keeps the mind on the object.

The current state (or emergence) of mindfulness is to guard the heart or the goal of meditation, so that troubles cannot enter, so the mental state corresponding to mindfulness will not be suppressed by troubles. Another aspect of mindfulness is bringing attention head-on to an object.

The proximate cause (or foundation) of mindfulness is a strong and stable thought or four foundations of mindfulness regarding the meditation object.

There are four types of clear understanding, namely:

Beneficial clear understanding: the wisdom of knowing whether an action has the benefit of wholesome dharma;

Suitable clear understanding: The wisdom of knowing whether an action is appropriate;

Spiritual understanding of action: the wisdom of regularly focusing on practicing samatha meditation; the forty karma of samatha meditation are included;

Non-delusion and clear understanding: the wisdom of knowing the ultimate mental and physical phenomena, their causes and conditions, and their three characteristics of impermanence, suffering, and selflessness; this includes all vipassana meditations.

Sati usually arises at the same time as clear understanding. Right understanding is wisdom or insight. When the meditator's mindfulness and clear understanding are both strong and powerful, it is easier to succeed in practicing samatha meditation and insight meditation.

In the process of meditation, when your mindfulness is strong, your concentration will be strong. When mindfulness and concentration are strong, clear understanding will also be strong. On the contrary, when mindfulness is weak, concentration will be weak. When mindfulness and concentration are weak, clear understanding cannot arise. This is why the Buddha said in "The Perfection of Truth." "The Samadhi Sutra" says:

"Bhikkhus, you should cultivate concentration. A bhikkhu with concentration can understand all dharmas as they really are."

Thus, It can be seen that concentration is the direct factor for the emergence of clear understanding (wisdom). However, concentration cannot arise without mindfulness. This is why clear understanding cannot arise when mindfulness and concentration are weak.
