Historical origin

1934 The first constitution was adopted and the International Badminton Federation was formally established. The International Badminton Federation was founded with nine members (Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales), and then it quickly developed into an international organization with many members and was recognized by the world. 1981may, IBF merged with another organization, World Badminton Federation, which was founded in 1978, and kept its original name. On September 24th, 2006, the International Badminton Federation was officially renamed as the current Badminton World Federation. The first action of the new Federation is to set up the 12 badminton super series in 2007, and the finals of the super series will be held at the end of the season.

1992 badminton was listed as an official event in Barcelona Olympic Games, 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games listed mixed doubles as an event. The International Badminton Federation is a member of the Federation of International Sports Federations. The main events organized by the Badminton World Federation are: Thomas Cup (men), which is held every three years from 1949 and changed from 1982 to every two years; Uber Cup (female), held every three years from 1956, changed to be held every two years from 1982; World Badminton Championships 1977 started; Olympic badminton, Thomas Cup and Uber Cup all need regional qualifiers, and the winners will take part in the finals.
