The Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor is the mausoleum of the Xuanyuan family, the ancestor of the Chinese nation. According to legend, the Yellow Emperor attained enlightenment and ascended to heaven, so the mausoleum is a tomb. It is located in Qiaoshan, north of Huangling County, Shaanxi Province; in 1961, the State Council announced it as one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units in the country, and was listed as the "No. 1 ancient tomb" and known as the "No. 1 mausoleum in the world." The Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum was called "Qiaoling" in ancient times. It was a place where emperors and famous figures of all dynasties in China worshiped the Yellow Emperor. According to records, the earliest sacrifice to the Yellow Emperor began in 442 BC. Since the temple was built in the fifth year of Dali of the Tang Dynasty (770), it has been the place where all dynasties held national sacrifices.
