Why is there a white layer on my fish?
Dermatoderma, also known as water mold and white disease, is one of the most common diseases of ornamental fish. Pathogens include water zero, cotton mold, heterotypic mold, filariasis, pythium and so on.
When fishing and transporting ornamental fish, the skin of the fish was accidentally injured, or the skin was damaged by parasites. The spores of mold invade the wound, absorb nutrients and germinate quickly. One end of the mycelium goes deep into the muscle, and the other end grows outward, forming a cotton-wool mycelium. When mold is only parasitic, it is not easy to be found by naked eyes; When visible to the naked eye, mycelium has invaded from the wound of fish and grown from the outside to the inside.
Mycelia entangles and adheres to the wound tissue, causing tissue necrosis. Due to more and more cotton-wool hyphae, the fish body is overloaded, which makes swimming abnormal, loss of appetite and emaciation, leading to death. When ornamental fish are infected with mold, they will also be affected by the length of light. Continuous rain for a long time, or insufficient indoor lighting, sunlight and other light sources will promote the growth of mold.
The skin of fish infected by mold is usually covered with a layer of white, especially black and red fish, thus losing the luster of fish. Subsequently, the activity is slow, often dull, floating on the water. If not treated in time, the mold of fish will spread, the muscles of the affected area will rot, the appetite will decrease, and eventually it will lead to death.

Prevention and treatment of water mold
The water temperature in spring is more suitable for the reproduction and growth of pathogenic bacteria, so it is particularly necessary to do a good job of prevention.
First, excess sludge at the bottom of the pool can be removed in winter, and it can be disinfected with 200mg/L quicklime or 20mg/L bleaching powder;
The second is to strengthen feeding management and improve the disease resistance of fish. Try to avoid fish scales falling off due to extrusion and collision during temporary cultivation under high density conditions, or try to avoid fish injuries during fishing and transportation.
Third, when the water temperature is lower than 15℃, manual operation should be reduced as much as possible to prevent stress reaction, resulting in scratches or frostbite. Four, long-distance transportation of fish before and after stocking, should be timely disinfected with 2%~3% salt water or disinfectant. Five, parent fish after artificial propagation injury, can use 10% potassium permanganate solution daub wound disinfection.
Malachite green can be used to treat parasitic, fungal or bacterial infections of fish or fish eggs, especially for fungi, and can be used as ornamental fish for non-edible fish.
