History of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture

In the 1960s, archaeologists discovered caves inhabited by primitive people and a large number of living relics on Shimen Mountain in the southern suburb of Antu County, Yanbian Prefecture. A hominid tooth fossil was unearthed during excavation and cleaning. Archaeologists' discovery is the oldest known relic of human activities in Yanbian area, named "Antu people". According to charcoal 14 of animal fossils such as mammoths and hairy rhinos unearthed in Antu caves, Antu people lived about 26,000 years ago and should belong to Paleolithic Age. The discovery of "Antu people" proves that as early as ancient times, human beings have lived and multiplied in Yanbian area.

Yanbian has a long history. According to the unearthed cultural relics in the Neolithic Age and the historical records two thousand years ago, as early as the Neolithic Age, China Su Shenren thrived on this land. Nine years after seeing Zuo Zhuan, King Jing of Zhou ordered Zhan Huanbo to resign from Jin, saying that "Wu Wang has a successful career, Su Shen Yan Bo, and my northern soil is also", that is, Yanbian was the earliest birthplace of Su Shen.

Yanbian was under the jurisdiction of Xuantu County in Han Dynasty, once under the jurisdiction of Anton Khufu in Tang Dynasty, and later under the jurisdiction of Bohai State established by Su Mo, a descendant of Su Shen. During the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, Yanbian area successively belonged to Kaiyuan Road, the capital of Liaoyang, and Burhatu, the capital of Nurgan.

17 14 (fifty-third year of Kangxi), the Qing government established Hunchun Xie Ling, which was under the jurisdiction of 15 Kalun (post) and was under the jurisdiction of the deputy commander-in-chief of Ningguta. The following year, Xie Ling yamen was built in the north of Hunchun River, and the city began to build. 1859 (the ninth year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty), Xie Ling of Hunchun was promoted to Xie Ling, the deputy governor.

188 1 year (the seventh year of Guangxu in Qing dynasty), deputy commander Hunchun was added to govern most of Yanbian. Iktangga, the first deputy commander-in-chief, continued to build the city in Hunchun, first to the east of Jinghe Street in Hunchun, commonly known as the old city. In the same year, Jilin Frontier Defense Bureau and Hunchun Reclamation Bureau were established to open up wasteland.

1909 (the year of Xuantongyuan, Qing Dynasty), Hunchun Hall was established to administer the land east of Mijiang River, and its jurisdiction was still in Hunchun City. The southeast road of Jilin Province is patrolled, Hunchun Hall helps people to know each other, and Daotai Yamen is in the same city. The Qing Dynasty called Changbai Mountain the birthplace of Manchu, and it was forbidden to enter except the Eight Banners. It has been isolated from the outside world for nearly 200 years. This is a policy of Manchu to protect traditional culture. Under the background and historical restrictions at that time, this policy had many disadvantages, such as the long-term confinement led to sparsely populated frontier areas, which became a hidden danger of frontier national defense under the condition that Russia gradually annexed Northeast China, so it was opened to the outside world in the late Qing Dynasty. After Changbai Mountain was opened to the outside world, some Korean border people crossed the border to reclaim wasteland, attracting a large number of settlers in the customs.

1902 (the 28th year of Guangxu), the Qing government set up Yanji Guild Hall in Juzi Street, Yanji. After the Sino-Japanese Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, Japanese imperialism occupied Korea, and Japan used Korea as a springboard to carry out aggressive activities frequently in Yanbian area of China.

1907 (in the thirty-third year of Guangxu reign in the Qing dynasty), Japanese imperialism invaded Longjing, a town under the jurisdiction of Yanji Hall, where Koreans were concentrated, and set up the "Temporary Island Police Station of the Provisional Government of North Korea" to carry out espionage activities. The Qing government protested on August 24th. On August 26th, Xu Shichang, the governor of the three northeastern provinces, sent Wu Luzhen, the producer of the New Army Training Institute, to investigate. Afterwards, he wrote "Yanji Border Affairs Report" and drew "Yanji Border Affairs Thematic Map", which scientifically demonstrated that the "island" mentioned by Koreans is the sacred territory of China.

1On September 4th, 909 (July 20th, the first year of Qing Dynasty), the Qing government and Japan signed the Provisions on Border Affairs between China and North Korea, reaffirming that Tumen River is the traditional border between China and North Korea, and the Qing government agreed to open Longjing Village with Juzi Street, Toudaogou and Baicaogou as trading ports. The Koreans in Yanji are under the local administration of China. Two months after the signing of this agreement, Japan withdrew the police station and its civilian and military personnel, and set up a Japanese consulate in the above-mentioned commercial port. Later, in order to strengthen the management of Yanbian area, the Qing government upgraded Yanji Hall located in Juzi Street to Yanji Pavilion.

193 18 September 200818, Japanese imperialism launched a war of aggression against the northeast of China, from which the northeast fell into the period of Japanese puppet rule. During the occupation of Northeast China, Yanji was called "Knife City" and became the capital of the pseudo-Knife Province. After Japanese imperialism invaded the northeast of China, it adopted an extremely sinister strategy of "governing China with food" and formulated a "Korean immigration plan" to forcibly relocate a large number of Koreans to various parts of northeast China.

1936 In August, the puppet Manchukuo government and the North Korean Governor's Office jointly formulated the Manchurian Korean Code, agreed to immigrate from North Korea 1 10,000 households every year, and decided to regard Korean immigrants as "constituent elements" of Manchukuo nationals. These forced immigrants are arranged in group tribes and are strictly "controlled".

On August 1945 and 18, the Soviet Red Army and the Yanbian detachment of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Coalition entered Yanji, and the military and political organs of the pseudo-"Jiandao Province" collapsed and the Yanbian area was liberated.
