My parents’ hometown essay

The river head at dawn

The white mist is vast;

It is the weather in the south of the Yangtze River,

The rain is coming

< p>I only knew that there was a blue sea,

But it turned out that there was also a green river,

This is the hometown of my parents!

Fuzhou, Fujian will always be my hometown. Although I did not grow up there, it is the hometown of my parents!

To this day, I have only been back twice in my life. The first time was in 1911, in the winter. After returning from the cold and yellow north, I was surprised and delighted to see the green mountains, clear waters, red flowers and green leaves before my eyes! I feel that the sail of my life has sailed from the blue sea into the green river. That day we got off the boat from the big boat to the small boat at the mouth of the Minjiang River and drove to the bridge. We were surrounded by our uncles and cousins who came to pick us up. They talked enthusiastically with my parents in their local accents. My five-year-old eldest brother quietly asked me in Shandong dialect: "Why do they all speak Fuzhou dialect?" Because in the hearts of our siblings, Fuzhou dialect is the most difficult to understand and speak!

For more than a year since then, we have lived a life in the city of Fuzhou. New Year, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival... During the festivals of the year, the food and entertainment are very rich and interesting. Especially during the Lantern Festival, our family lived in Nanhou Street at that time, which was the street of the lantern market. Around the Lantern Festival, "the lights in the flower market were like daylight", and there was a huge flow of people under the shadow of the lanterns. The bright and gorgeous scene was indescribable.

The second time I went back was in 1956, also in winter. There was no Yingxia-Xiamen Railway at that time, and our National People's Congress delegation took a bus from Jiangxi. The red clay road along the way was slippery. I have never seen a road paved with dirt so smoothly maintained! This time I not only went to Fuzhou, but also to Zhangzhou, Quanzhou, Xiamen, Gulangyu... That is the southern border of the motherland. On the Xiamen front line, I also saw pedestrians and cattle on Kinmen Island through the telescope, and I could see them clearly...

There are many scenes in my memories, so I won’t describe them one by one here. All in all, I love my parents' country. Over there is the southern scenery, the mountains are green, the water is green, and the small streams can be seen clearly! There are flowers blooming in the courtyard all year round. The fruits range from loquats, lychees, longans, to lucky oranges! For a child, what could be more pleasant than this?

I haven’t traveled much in my hometown, but historical sites and hometowns of overseas Chinese can be seen everywhere. Overseas Chinese from Fujian can be found all over the world. In all the countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States that I have visited, I have seen Fujianese expatriates who have worked hard to start their own businesses. They shook hands with each other and their affection was palpable. Eating Fuzhou cuisine and drinking jasmine tea at their homes and shops made me feel that as a Fujianese, I have a home all over the world.

The hometown of my parents is lovely. Some people come from my hometown or have friends who have recently visited Fujian. I ask them about the current situation in Fujian. They said: Compared with more than 20 years ago, Fujian has made unrecognizable progress. Recently, agriculture has been scientificized, trees are being planted again, and the mountains and fields have become more lush.

They all mobilized me to go back and have a look. Why wouldn't I want to? Not only do I think about it, but I don’t know how many people around the world are thinking about it! I am willing to work with the people in my hometown and Fujian expatriates all over the world to build a better hometown in terms of spiritual and material civilization!
