After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Luoding County was affiliated to Xijiang Prefecture of Guangdong Province.
In 1952, it was affiliated to the Yuezhong Administrative Region of Guangdong Province.
On November 5, 1958, Luoding and Yunan counties merged and were called Luonan County. The county government is located in Luocheng Town and is affiliated to Jiangmen Prefecture.
On January 4, 1959, Luonan County was renamed Luoding County.
On April 10, 1961, Luoding County was restored to the original organizational system of Luoding and Yunan counties. Luoding County was affiliated to Zhaoqing Prefecture of Guangdong Province.
On April 8, 1993, with the approval of the State Council, Luoding County was revoked and the county-level Luoding City was established, which was directly under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province and managed by Zhaoqing City.
