Controversy over Guangming Expressway

The planned section of Prayer Road in Zhongcun, Panyu uses a sunken tunnel, which is about 1.8 kilometers long. The construction is currently stopped due to interference from Prayer Group. The reason is that the tunnel supporting electric room affects the Feng Shui of prayer. If it cannot be opened to traffic as scheduled, the daily travel of the 200,000 villagers in Qifu New Village will be troubled for a long time.

The planned west extension of Guangming Expressway passes behind Wanwu Village, Genghe Town, Gaoming District, and its roadside piles are only more than 10 meters away from the nearest house. Local villagers complained on May 13, 2010 that the construction distance was too close, which would cause cracks in the walls of the houses, and would also be affected by noise, dust and other pollution after completion. The distance between the highway and residential buildings was generally controlled at 30 meters. Later, the person in charge of the Guangming Expressway West Extension Project said that the line has not yet been finalized and is still being adjusted. The project will fully consider the requirements of the local people.
