The main reason why Lalu wetland is called the lung of Lhasa.
Wetland has the functions of regulating climate, conserving water, beautifying environment and purifying pollutants in water. The average elevation of Lalu Wetland is 3,645 meters, and the protected area is 12.2 square kilometers. It can increase the air humidity in Lhasa through evaporation of wetland water surface and transpiration of plants, and plays an irreplaceable role in regulating climate, absorbing sand and preventing dust, beautifying urban environment and so on.
Wetlands have a large area and many kinds of plants. Wetland absorbs carbon dioxide through photosynthesis of plants, increases the humidity and oxygen content of urban air, maintains ecological balance, and promotes the virtuous circle of Lhasa's urban ecosystem and the improvement of urban environmental quality.
