The origin of the name Zhangjiakou is directly related to the immigrants during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty.
In the sixty years from the early Ming Dynasty to the fourth year of Xuande, there was no other factor that could change place names than the Hongwu immigrants. According to the "Xuanfu Town Chronicles", in the twenty-sixth year of Hongwu (1393), due to "the shortage of households in this area, some remaining residents from various places in Shanxi were transferred to fill them."
