Historical evolution of Huizhou:
Dongjiang District was established in December 1949, which was revoked in January 1950. Huiyang County was placed under the Eastern Guangdong Administrative Region. Boluo and Longmen counties were placed under the Central Guangdong Administrative Region. By January 1956, these three counties were under the jurisdiction of the newly established Huiyang Prefecture.
In April 1958, Huiyang County separated Huizhou Town into Huizhou City (county level), and the eastern part of the county was separated into Huidong County. In November of the same year, Longmen County was merged into Zengcheng County and became part of Guangzhou City. In November and December, Huizhou City and Huidong County were abolished successively and were still placed under Huiyang County.
In March 1959, the Huiyang Prefecture was revoked, and Huiyang and Boluo counties were placed under the Foshan Prefecture. In October 1961, Longmen County was restored and placed under the Foshan Prefecture.
