When is winter in Guangzhou?
Winter is the dry season in Guangzhou, with less precipitation, sunny weather and sufficient sunshine. January is the coldest month, with an average monthly temperature of 9 to 16°C, and the temperature difference between the north and the south is more than 7°C. The lowest temperature in Guangzhou's history was -2.6°C, which occurred in Conghua, Guangzhou on January 16, 1963. In Guangzhou, although there is the influence of cold air from the south in winter, due to its low latitude, the average temperature in January is still 13.5℃, so there is no winter in the climatic sense.
The northeasterly or northerly wind prevails in winter (December-February). The cold and dry air from the north denatures and becomes humid after traveling a long distance, and its intensity is greatly weakened. When it reaches Guangzhou, the wind speed has changed. It is small and the temperature is relatively high, so the winter is warm. However, in some years, frost weather may also occur when the cold wave comes.
Extended information
Guangzhou City is located in the south of mainland China, the south-central part of Guangdong Province, and the northern edge of the Pearl River Delta, close to the estuary of the lower reaches of the Pearl River Basin. Its range is 112 degrees 57 minutes to 114 degrees 3 minutes east longitude, and 22 degrees 26 minutes to 23 degrees 56 minutes north latitude. It connects Boluo and Longmen counties in Huizhou City to the east, Sanshui, Nanhai and Shunde Districts of Foshan City to the west, the urban area of Qingyuan City and Fogang County and Xinfeng County of Shaoguan City to the north, and Dongguan City and Zhongshan City to the south. It faces Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions across the sea.
Due to the numerous islands and dense waterways at the Pearl River Estuary, including Humen, Jiaomen, Hongqimen and other waterways leading to the sea, Guangzhou has become an excellent seaport for China's ocean shipping and an import and export port in the Pearl River Basin. Guangzhou is also the intersection of the Beijing-Guangzhou, Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Guangzhou-Maoming, Guangzhou-Meishan and Wuhan-Guangzhou railways and the civil aviation transportation center of South China. It has extremely close connections with all parts of the country. Therefore, Guangzhou is known as the "Southern Gate" of China.
