Where is Xuanyan Village?

Xuanyan Village is located 18 kilometers southwest of Simingshan Town, Yuyao City. It is an ancient village with more than 100 households. The small village is located on the mountainside more than 400 meters above sea level.

Xuanyan Village is located in a valley 18 kilometers away from Simingshan Town, Yuyao, with an altitude of more than 400 meters. The houses of more than 100 families in the village are built against the mountain. There are groups of stones of different shapes surrounding Xuanyan Village. Because these stones are connected to each other and resemble waves, the villagers call them "Shilang". There is Luocheng Mountain behind the village. There are cliffs on the mountain. Some of them seem to be hanging in the air, as if they will roll down the mountain at any time. This is where the picturesque name of the village "Xuanyan" comes from. Because there are many rocks, Xuanyan Village naturally has many legends about rocks. According to local villagers, a long time ago, there was a huge stone at the entrance of the village. It was less than one meter away from the stone cliff next to it. It was very narrow for villagers to carry loads of firewood or carry goods into the village. If a newlywed's sedan arrives here, the bride must first get off the sedan and walk into the village entrance. Then the bearer will lift the empty sedan high and slowly enter this "pass." Due to the obstruction of huge rocks, it is extremely inconvenient for villagers to enter and exit the village. At that time, someone proposed to use a hammer to knock down the boulder blocking the entrance to the village. However, this suggestion was opposed by some people, saying that the boulder was a living stone and if it was moved, it would destroy the feng shui of the village. Therefore, the people of Xuanyan Village had to endure the inconvenience of entering the village. It was not until the reform and opening up that the appearance of Xuanyan Village was greatly changed, the village roads became wider, and the transportation became more convenient.
